Job summary

Charleston Birth Place is seeking a PRN Birth Assistant to support CNMs at our freestanding birth center in South Carolina. The role requires SC RN or CPM licensure, at least one year in maternal/child health, and current CPR certifications.

The Birth Assistant will provide direct patient care, support labor and delivery, and help coordinate care with hospital providers when needed. On-call availability within 30 minutes is expected.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of maternal/child health, labor and delivery, and newborn care.
• Excellent communication with staff and patients.
• Able to work in stressful situations and anticipate needs of CNMs and families.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care per policy and procedures.
• Deliver educational, emotional, and physical support to patients and families.
• Assist CNMs during births and urgent events, and communicate with hospital providers as needed.
• Attend meetings and participate in drills and quality improvement activities.
• Assist with clinic duties during office hours and maintain birth center cleanliness.
