Job Description: Field Investigator

Job Classification: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The majority of work involves field surveillance to obtain high-quality videotape documentation of claimants involved in workers' compensation and liability/personal injury claims. Investigators are responsible for submitting accurate, timely reports, conducting background investigations, scene diagrams, neighborhood canvasses, activity checks, and locates. They perform duties following legal and ethical standards, utilizing time and resources efficiently to provide excellent investigative services.

Essential Job Functions

1. Prepare adequately for each assignment by reviewing client instructions, case objectives, and all relevant information.
2. Conduct field investigations and surveillance activities, including photography or videotaping to gather evidence.
3. Review court and government records to complete background checks.
4. Communicate effectively with Case Managers, assistants, and clients about case progress and recommendations.
5. Review collected documentation and suggest additional background information if needed.
6. Complete investigations following client instructions and deadlines.
7. Maintain confidentiality of all information.
8. Manage cases until closure, keeping accurate and organized files, utilizing resources including the Internet.
9. Testify to findings in hearings or court proceedings.
10. Perform other duties as directed by management.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Proficiency with digital video camcorders.
• Working knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, and Adobe Acrobat.
• Effective written communication and report writing skills.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport.
• Flexibility to work varied hours, including holidays and weekends.
• Ability to work independently.
• Willingness to travel extensively and manage expenses.

Qualifications

• Experience in conducting surveillance as a private investigator is required.
• Experience with SIU/Claims investigations is preferred.
• Bi-lingual skills are a plus.
• Degree in Criminal Justice or related field is a plus.
• Skills in conducting written and recorded statements and photographing evidence are advantageous.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required.
• Strong computer and Internet skills.
• Ability to travel as needed and work flexible hours.
• Personal pride in timely work completion.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work involves community presence, long periods in vehicles, and operation of surveillance equipment. Communication with supervisors, clients, and staff via phone and email is frequent. The noise level is usually moderate.
