Job summary

Google is seeking a Privacy Engineer in Mountain View, CA to embed privacy from the ground up and shape the technical privacy strategy for entire products. You will collaborate with Product Management and Engineering to understand critical decisions, anticipating privacy needs before blockers arise.

You will architect scalable guardrails that enable safe, innovative product development while protecting user data, and drive privacy initiatives across policy and engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience designing solutions that maintain or enhance the privacy posture of the organization by analyzing and assessing proposed engineering designs (e.g., product features, infrastructure systems) and influencing stakeholders.
• 2 years of experience applying privacy technologies (e.g., differential privacy, automated access management solutions, etc.), and customizing existing solutions and frameworks to meet organizational needs.

Responsibilities

• Guide engineering teams during product development to ensure data collection and usage practices are transparent, protect user privacy, and mitigate risk.
• Conduct technical and policy reviews to identify and escalate potential privacy concerns.
• Lead and manage the proactive development of new privacy features and tools.
• Contribute to product strategy, business strategy, public policy, and legal initiatives to address and mitigate privacy risks.
• Respond to privacy incidents by collecting information on scope and root cause, and managing remediation.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 2 years of experience designing solutions that maintain or enhance the privacy posture of the organization by analyzing and assessing proposed engineering designs (e.g., product features, infrastructure systems) and influencing stakeholders.
• 2 years of experience applying privacy technologies (e.g., differential privacy, automated access management solutions, etc.), and customizing existing solutions and frameworks to meet organizational needs.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience balancing risks in ambiguous and complex situations with multiple stakeholders.
• Experience managing multiple high priority requests, while determining resource allocation (e.g., time, prioritization) to solve problems in a fast-paced, changing organization.
• Experience in code maintenance and review in one or more general-purpose languages.
• Experience with technical privacy issues (e.g., cookie management, encryption) and the software development lifecycle.
• Knowledge of common regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and the Ads or online commerce domain.

As a Privacy Engineer, you are a strategic partner who builds privacy into our products from the ground up. You will move beyond individual feature reviews to define the technical privacy strategy for entire products. You will collaborate deeply with Product Management and Engineering to understand critical design and infrastructure decisions, anticipating privacy needs before they become blockers.

In this role, you will be an architect of trust. You will design the scalable systems and guardrails that allow our business to innovate efficiently while protecting user data. You will not just identify risks; you will engineer the solutions that enable teams to meet their goals safely and effectively.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $147000 - $210000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits
