Job description

Job Overview:
A highly regarded law firm is seeking a Associate with 4–6 years of experience to join its Privacy & Cybersecurity practice. This position offers significant client-facing responsibility and project leadership in data privacy compliance and policy development. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of U.S. state privacy laws and sector-specific regulations, particularly in the health and financial industries. The role is suited for a motivated, detail-oriented professional seeking to lead client matters and deliver practical legal guidance in a collaborative legal environment.

Location:

Washington, D.C.

Duties:

Advise clients on compliance with U.S. state privacy laws such as CCPA, WA MHMD, and others

Conduct gap assessments and assist in building data privacy compliance programs

Draft and develop privacy-related documents, including:

Privacy policies and business guidance

Data subject rights (DSR) procedures

Incident response plans and tabletop exercises

Contract templates and playbooks

Advise clients in health and financial sectors on laws such as HIPAA, GLBA, CalFIPA, FCRA, 42 CFR Part 2, and others

Collaborate with supervising partners and support junior attorneys or paralegals as needed

Assist clients in prioritizing risks and implementing practical, scalable solutions

Requirements:

4–6 years of experience focused on data privacy compliance counseling

In-depth experience with U.S. state privacy regulations (e.g., CCPA and similar frameworks)

Prior work with adtech and online tracking (e.g., TCPA, CAN-SPAM, DAA/NAI/IAB) strongly preferred

Familiarity with legal issues in the health/life sciences and financial sectors strongly preferred

Experience managing complex or large-scale privacy compliance projects

Must be capable of working independently and within a collaborative team

Education:

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications (Preferred):

Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP-US, CIPT, or CIPM)

Certifications (Required):

Admission to practice law in the jurisdiction of application

Skills:

Excellent legal writing, communication, and presentation skills

Strong organizational and project management capabilities

Detail-oriented with sound legal judgment

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced legal environment

Skilled in building client relationships and providing clear, practical guidance
