Job summary

BARNES & THORNBURG LLP is seeking a Data Privacy and AI Associate in the United States. The role targets candidates with 1–3 years of privacy experience, a demonstrated interest in privacy law (CIPP preferred), and some AI exposure.

The associate will handle privacy counseling, retention policies, DPAs, incident response plans, and breach notices, with additional AI responsibilities. The firm values an inclusive, collegial culture.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of data privacy experience; 1–3 years preferred.
• CIPP certification or strong interest in privacy law.
• Familiarity with AI matters and data security concepts.
• Experience with incident response and data breach matters is a plus.
• Strong academic record with solid legal research and writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Counsel clients on data privacy and AI compliance and risk mitigation.
• Draft and review data retention policies and data processing agreements.
• Assist with incident response plans, reports, breach notifications, and breach responses.
• Stay current with state and federal privacy and cybersecurity laws related to AI.
