Job description

Lead Early Childhood Teacher

Maine Coast Waldorf School, Freeport, Maine

Starting August, 2025

Founded in 1984, Maine Coast Waldorf School serves approximately 260 children from parent/toddler through high school. We are an accredited Waldorf program with more than 50 full-time faculty members currently offering: two world languages, handwork, woodwork, instrumental and choral music, movement class and a variety of seasonal extra-curricular activities.

Position: A Lead full-time teacher in our kindergarten program for the 2025/2026 academic year, beginning in August, 2025. The Lead Teacher will have the support of an assistant, and other lead teachers in adjoining early childhood classes and should have experience working with three and four year-olds. Our early childhood program is housed in a custom, straw-bale constructed Early Childhood Center, situated on 80 beautiful acres, where our program offers ample outdoor experiences including a forest day.

Qualifications: Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s degree and have completed a WECAN-approved early childhood training, and have at least two years of Waldorf early childhood teaching experience as a lead teacher and a commitment to working out of Anthroposophy. Applicants must be dedicated to excellence in teaching and recognize the importance of parent education, self-development and collegial cooperation. This position requires the ability to work outdoors in all kinds of Maine weather.

Salary and Benefits: Full-time faculty are offered 80% tuition remission, medical, dental, and disability coverage, a retirement plan, and financial support for professional development. Our base salary is $49,603 plus increases for prior experience and advanced degrees.
