Job summary

Silgan Closures in Downers Grove, IL seeks a Printing and Coating Engineer to support metal coil cutting, sheet coating, printing, oven curing and related processes. You will lead projects and drive continuous improvement in manufacturing operations.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering and experience in can manufacturing or coating operations; travel up to 50% to assist plants; strong mechanical aptitude, problem solving, and collaboration with plant teams and OEMs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing or industrial engineering or related field.
• Significant experience in can manufacturing, coil coating, printing, metal packaging, or coating operations may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to travel up to 50% to assist plants in Evansville, IN, Richmond, IN, and Hazleton, PA.
• Experience with manufacturing equipment, process optimization, and continuous improvement.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and utilize precision measuring tools.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
• AutoCAD proficiency preferred.
• Working knowledge of coatings, solvents, oven systems, oxidizers, heat recovery systems, and LEL detectors.

Responsibilities

• Lead process improvements that enhance quality, safety, and production efficiency.
• Support coil coating, printing, curing ovens, oxidizers, and heat recovery systems.
• Troubleshoot complex manufacturing equipment and identify root causes of operational issues.
• Lead equipment installations, audits, overhauls, and qualification activities.
• Collaborate with plant teams and OEM suppliers to develop new products and manufacturing solutions.
• Train operators, supervisors, and maintenance personnel on equipment setup, operation, and safety requirements.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, including LOTO, machine guarding, confined space, and safe work practices.
