Job summary

Navy Federal Credit Union is seeking a Bindery/Print Operations Technician to manage high-volume print production in a warehouse environment. You will operate bindery equipment, assess work orders, and ensure timely completion of projects with attention to quality and safety.

Ideal candidates will have experience with bindery functions, strong organizational skills, and proficiency in Adobe Acrobat and the Microsoft suite.

Qualifications

  • Experience operating bindery equipment and maintaining machinery.
  • Ability to interpret printing specifications and follow directions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud apps is beneficial.

Working Conditions

Employee will be operating in a warehouse environment with exposure to loud machinery. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Basic Purpose

To reproduce high volume, priority copies on a deadline basis for Navy Federal Business Units and entire Navy Federal staff. To maintain print production equipment in working order. Operate digital press equipment. Perform various bindery functions and operate specialized bindery equipment. Performs under supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Produce and deliver high volume scheduled and on demand print projects
  • Receive print production work orders, analyzing size, complexity, and finishing requirements, prioritizing to ensure orders are completed in a time efficient manner and deadlines are met
  • Consult with leadership daily on production schedules and make necessary adjustments to ensure project deadlines are met
  • Electronically access and run print ready files, utilizing most appropriate materials and processing equipment for production
  • Provide print layout support by utilizing applicable print imposition technology programs to arrange print layouts that best optimize print production efficiencies and resources; utilize established processes to determine and operate appropriate equipment to produce digital or hard proofs for client approval prior to final production

  • Identify errors and problems and take appropriate corrective action; elevate recurring workflow or operational issues to management
  • Validate packaging of finished projects for shipping, inspecting packaging and ensuring the completion and accuracy of all supporting documentation
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of applicable printing and bindery services through conferences, seminars and continued education
  • Maintain Print Operations printer/bindery equipment and supplies; perform scheduled daily, weekly and monthly routine maintenance
  • Provide and maintain a clean, efficient and safe working environment at all times
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment problems; complete minor repairs if appropriate, consult with leadership when equipment service calls are needed
  • Complete weekly inventories using word processing, spreadsheet software and consult with leadership to ensure essential materials and supplies are readily available for print production and equipment maintenance
  • Log and report meter readings daily when assigned
  • Serve as mentor/trainer and provide guidance and assistance to team members; Serve as technical resource to team to ensure the proper processing and set-up of bindery assignments
  • Operate material handling equipment and other non-bindery equipment needed for supporting tasks within Print Operations
  • Monitor recurring workflow or operational issues and elevate to management
  • Responsible for powering down equipment daily and ensure all tools are put away at the end of each work shift
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Experience operating and maintaining various bindery equipment
  • Working knowledge of printing related bindery functions
  • Ability to interpret printing specifications and implement verbal directions
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks, and set priorities

  • Ability to measure up proof sheets to verify trim and fold margins
  • Effective skill with Adobe Acrobat , Microsoft Suite, and associated programs
  • Ability to merge color copies or tabs into text copies using special equipment functions
Desired Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • High school education or equivalent
  • Exposure to operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining a digital printer-copier press, large format printer, laminator, and various bindery and finishing equipment
  • Familiarity with various grades and weights of paper, vinyl, and other print materials
  • Ability to interpret and understand client printing specifications, requirements, and expectations
  • Software skills including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat Pro
