Job summary

Weyerhaeuser seeks a Senior AI Architect to define and evangelize enterprise AI architectures spanning ML, generative AI, and intelligent agents. The role requires 10+ years designing enterprise-scale solutions, deep AI tech knowledge, and strong communication with executive and technical audiences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline; Master’s or PhD preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience designing and delivering technology solutions on edge, cloud, and data platforms.
  • Deep understanding of AI technologies including ML, generative AI, and intelligent agents across major enterprise ecosystems.

Responsibilities

  • Define and evolve enterprise AI architecture, reference architectures, and standards.
  • Guide platform strategy for ML, gen AI, intelligent agents, and optimization.
  • Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews and engineering standards.

As Principal AI Architect, you will define and evangelize AI architectures that power Weyerhaeuser’s digital transformation. Spanning traditional machine learning, generative AI, and agentic AI, this role ensures solutions are scalable, secure, and responsible — driving measurable business value across our timberlands, wood products, and corporate functions.You will partner with business, product, data, and technology leaders to define the architectural foundation for AI across Weyerhaeuser. Working at the intersection of strategy and engineering, you will establish reference architectures, design patterns, and technical standards that enable teams to rapidly build secure, scalable, and reusable AI capabilities. Your work will shape how AI is integrated into business workflows, enterprise platforms, and operational systems accelerating innovation while ensuring solutions remain governable, resilient, and aligned with enterprise standards.You'll evaluate and guide the adoption of modern AI technologies including large language models, intelligent agents, cloud AI services, enterprise data platforms, and emerging interoperability standards while selecting the right technologies for the problem rather than building around any single vendor or framework.Key ResponsibilitiesEnterprise AI Architecture - Define and evolve Weyerhaeuser's enterprise AI architecture, reference architectures, and technical standards. Establish scalable, secure, and reusable architectural patterns that enable AI to become a core enterprise capability while ensuring interoperability, governance, and long-term maintainability.AI Platform Strategy - Define the architectural foundation for enterprise AI platforms supporting machine learning, generative AI, intelligent agents, and optimization. Guide technology strategy, platform evolution, and the adoption of emerging AI capabilities while balancing innovation, operational maturity, and business value.Technical Leadership - Provide technical leadership across the enterprise through architecture reviews, mentoring, engineering standards, and reusable design patterns. Establish engineering standards, reusable design patterns, architecture reviews, and technical guidance across the engineering teams for AI solutions.Enterprise Collaboration - Partner with business, product, engineering, data, cybersecurity, and enterprise architecture teams to translate strategic business opportunities into technical solutions. Drive alignment across organizations to ensure AI capabilities integrate seamlessly into enterprise platforms and business workflows.Responsible AI & Operational Excellence - Embed Responsible AI principles throughout the AI lifecycle by defining architectures that emphasize security, governance, transparency, observability, performance, reliability, and cost efficiency. Ensure AI solutions are designed for enterprise-scale operations and deliver measurable business outcomes.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline. Master's degree or PhD preferred.10+ years of experience designing and delivering technology solutions on edge, cloud, and data platforms.Demonstrated success defining architecture for complex, distributed systems operating at enterprise scale.Deep understanding of modern AI technologies, including machine learning, generative AI, and intelligent agent architectures with one or more major enterprise AI ecosystems such as Microsoft Azure AI, AWS, Google Cloud, OpenAI, Anthropic, Snowflake, Databricks, SAP, or comparable platforms.Experience designing reusable patterns, shared services, developer frameworks, and engineering accelerators that improve enterprise AI delivery.Experience applying AI across one or more domains (the more the better): manufacturing/industrial, commercial (sales, supply chain, logistics), corporate functions (IT, HR, Finance, Legal, Procurement), or geospatial/GIS.Experience implementing AI governance, Responsible AI practices, model lifecycle management, evaluation frameworks, observability, or MLOps.Experience influencing technical direction across the enterprise through technical leadership rather than direct authority.Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage executive, business, and technical audiences.Why Join Weyerhaeuser?At Weyerhaeuser, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the future of sustainable forestry through AI-driven innovation. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 25% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.This position is also eligible to receive between $32,000 in restrictive stock units on an annual basis, as part of our Long Term Incentive Plan.Benefits: When you join our team, you and your dependents will be offered coverage under our comprehensive employee benefits plan, which includes medical, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, and life insurance.
