Job summary

COLSA in Madison, Alabama is seeking a Principal Systems & Product Design Engineer to serve as the technical bridge between Product Management and Engineering, translating operational needs into scalable architectures and system requirements.

You will work across aircraft, payloads, autonomy, networking, embedded software, and mission systems to establish the technical baseline that enables COLSA to rapidly develop, field, and evolve mission-critical capabilities for customers ranging from

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering (various disciplines) as listed.
• 10–12 years creating complex aerospace, defense, robotics or unmanned platforms.
• Proven product architectures, system requirements, interfaces and baselines.
• Experience with sUAS, mission payloads, RF, networking, autonomy, or embedded systems.
• Proficiency with Solid Works and PDM for systems engineering.
• Strong systems integration, networking, payload integration, and lifecycle knowledge.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams from design to production.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills to diverse stakeholders.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to pass background checks.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team of engineers.
• Develop and apply advanced techniques to complex system requirements.
• Design, develop, maintain, and support infrastructure including network and software.
• Plan, integrate, verify, validate, and evaluate alternatives.
• Analyze and resolve difficult program deficiencies.
• Guide configuration and support for infrastructure meeting quality standards.
• Direct projects or major phases of significant initiatives.
• Coordinate technical support staff on assigned projects.
• Conduct design and fielded product performance investigations and tests.
• Review literature, patents and current best practices relevant to projects.
• Assess system additions/enhancements and advise leadership.
• Evaluate vendor capabilities for required products or services.
