Job summary

Molex’s Opto-E team in Fremont seeks a Principal Test Engineer to lead test development for 800G/1.6T/3.2T transceiver characterization from prototypes through EVT/DVT to pilot production.

You will design hardware and software test platforms, collaborate with design and firmware teams, and develop calibration methodologies to meet customer specs and industry standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's/Master's/PhD in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 3–7 years of experience in IMDD and coherent modules characterizations.
  • Experience with transceiver module Device Verification Testing (DVT) activities.
  • Hands on experience with Vector Network Analyzer and Digital Sampling Oscilloscope.
  • Experience with small signal frequency domain analysis, CTLE, FFE, and DFE.
  • Experience with test automation using Python scripts.
  • Competent in data analysis and summarization using Python libraries, Excel and JMP.
  • Familiarity of 803.3xx standard and its test methodologies for electrical host and optical line side respectively.
  • Familiarity with CMIS (Common Management Interface Specification) is needed.
  • Knowledge of PAM4 digital signal processors

Responsibilities

  • Device and module characterization for next generation optical transceivers for AI/ML applications.
  • Build and strengthen transceiver characterization capability in the US through test equipment selections, test setups, DVT/EVT test and calibration methodologies
  • Define module test definitions that are compliant to customer specifications, industry standards and product life cycle procedures
  • Design the hardware and software of test platforms that are required for early engineering samples, EVT/DVT, and pilot productions.
  • The engineer will need to understand the test requirements at each development phase and balance equipment costs, test scopes and test times
  • Work with project managers and purchasing departments to ensure test systems are completed as required by project milestones and meeting cost targets
  • Perform test data analysis and summarization for wider development team to performance gap analysis
  • Test support for failure mode analysis for failures from R&D and production phases.

Molex is rapidly growing in our Opto-E business, responsible for developing 1.6T, 3.2T and beyond. In our Fremont office, we have a dedicated team of engineers. We are looking for a Principal Test Engineer that will lead test development for high speed fiber optic 800G/1.6T/3.2T transceiver characterization from early prototypes, engineering samples, EVT/DVT testing to pilot production test definitions.

This Engineer will closely collaborate with design authority, hardware and firmware team leaders to develop module calibration algorithms for transmitters and receivers.

As the only manufacturer in North America, this person will have an impact on our high-speed optical interconnects and the growth of the company.

What You Will Do

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's /Master's/PhD in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 3-7 years of experience in IMDD and coherent modules characterizations.
  • Experience with transceiver module Device Verification Testing (DVT) activities.
  • Hands on experience with Vector Network Analyzer and Digital Sampling Oscilloscope
  • Experience with small signal frequency domain analysis, Continuous Time Linear Equalizer, Feed Forward Equalization, Digital Pre-emphasis
  • Experience with test automation using python scripts
  • Competent in data analysis and summarization using python libraries, Excel and JMP.
  • Familiarity of 803.3xx standard and its test methodologies for electrical host and optical line side respectively
  • Familiarity with CMIS (Common Management Interface Specification) is needed
  • Knowledge of PAM4 digital signal processors
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Electro-optic devices such as EML, MZ modulator, photodiodes characterization expertise is a plus.

For this role, we anticipate paying $150,000 - $200,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
