Atlassian in San Francisco is seeking a Senior Principal Technical Program Manager for Core Data Services within the Data Platform TPM team. You will lead complex cross‑team programs, shaping reliable, scalable backend systems and guiding architecture decisions.

You will translate business goals into technical programs, manage risks, dependencies, budgeting and scheduling, and partner with engineers and architects to remove barriers and accelerate delivery.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
• 12+ years of experience with software teams.
• 4+ years leading platform and software teams in TPM/TPM roles.
• Experience with multiple datastores and data services.
• Experience with GraphQL, Kafka, Flink.
• Proven cross-team leadership and risk management.
• Experience designing backend systems and advocating architecture.

You will help shape a modern technical program management organization. The goal is to steer us through growth and remove barriers in the journey towards our long-term goals. You will have a unique challenge of finding agreement by creating guardrails and removing barriers to help our teams accelerate. As a cloud service provider, we build resilience into our systems to ensure service and data availability for our customers in the event of failures in system components. However, even the best systems have to have a disaster recovery plan.

We're hiring a Senior Principal Technical Program Manager for Core Data Services, reporting to our Head of Technical Program Management within our Data Platform TPM team. You are a TPM with a background in Core Data and related Infrastructure.

What you'll do

• Understand business objectives and translate them into technical systems problems to be prioritized.
• Define specific systems programs and create a plan of action for realizing those programs. Such programs could be around reliability improvements and more.
• Use your technical understanding of Atlassian and related systems to partner with and influence engineers and architects in making progress on these problems.
• Address engineering problems by prioritizing tasks, scoping out the project, defining objectives, and making progress on each of these.
• Be accountable for the success of these technical programs by managing the entire lifecycle from initiation to forecasting, budgeting, and scheduling.
• Manage complex dependencies and projects with a broad scope across the company.
• Collaborate with functions across the company to create reliable and cost-effective disaster recovery solutions for all of Atlassian's services.

Pay Ranges

In The United States, we have three geographic pay zones. For this role, our current base pay ranges for new hires in each zone are:

Zone A: $204,300 - $266,725

Zone B: $183,870 - $240,053

Zone C: $169,569 - $221,382

Qualifications

Your background

• BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
• 12+ years experience working with software teams
• 4+ years recent experience leading platform and software teams in a similar Technical Program Management or Technical Product Management role
• Experience using multiple types of Datastores including S3, DynamoDB, SQL and Elasticsearch
• Experience with GraphQL, Kafka, and Flink
• Experience leading projects spanning multiple teams and communicating with partners
• Experience managing risks and dependencies
• Experience with Agile software development processes
• Experience in designing and building back end software systems, including tradeoffs, launching and scaling. Using this technical expertise and in partnership with your senior engineering stakeholders you'll be able to influence the backend system design, architecture, and build.
• Experience leading strategy and execution on complex, cross divisional, technical programs, including analysing business priorities, customer needs, industry trends and articulating a long-term roadmap.
• Experience driving projects spanning multiple teams, including reaching agreements with your engineering partners and stakeholders, shepherding the projects while identifying and mitigating risks, making trade-off decisions optimising the outcome
• Able to translate customer and/or product requirements into technical requirements
