Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems in Palmdale, CA is seeking a Principal Technical Writer/Editor to join our diverse team. You will write, rewrite and edit IPB and technical manuals to clearly communicate specifications to a wide audience.

The role requires a bachelor (or master) in technical writing or related field and 5 years of military/technical writing experience, with Arbortext Editor and active Secret clearance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical or Professional Writing, English, or Communications with 5 years of military/technical writing experience; OR Master’s degree with 3 years of experience.
  • Experience in aviation maintenance technical publication development and sustainment using Arbortext Editor.
  • Active US Government Secret clearance or higher (with BI in past 6 years or Continuous Evaluation).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain SAP clearance within business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Write, re-write and edit technical documents such as IPB, manuals, and specifications for diverse audiences.
  • Acquire subject knowledge by interviewing product developers and consulting technical specifications and drawings.

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a motivated professional to serve as a Principal Technical Writer/Editor to join our diverse team of professionals located in Palmdale, CA.

The successful candidate will write, re-write and/or edit technical documents such as Illustrated Parts Breakdown (IPB), technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences.

Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree (Technical or Professional Writing, English, or Communications) and 5 years of relevant military / technical writing experience;
  • OR Masters degree and 3 years of relevant military / technical writing experience.
  • In lieu of formal education, 9 years relevant job experience may be considered.
  • Experienced in aviation maintenance technical publication development and sustainment using applicable software (e.g. Arbortext Editor).
  • Must have an active US Government Secret clearance or higher (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a military aircraft maintainer.
  • Active US Government Top Secret security clearance.
  • History of collaboration in small teams with different organizations.
  • Knowledge with AGILE, SCRUM, DevOps, etc.
  • Experience in the interpretation of engineering data such as parts list, application list, notes list and print reading.
  • Knowledge in creating multi-configuration, multi-effectivity indentured parts lists from engineering and other related data.
  • Experience with Illustrated Parts Breakdown (IPB) graphic software (e.g. AUTOCAD, Catia).
  • Experience with Isometric IPB graphics and layout.
  • Knowledge in creating and revising IPB's using MIL-DTL-38807 or MIL-PRF-38807.

Primary Level Salary Range: $85,600.00 - $128,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

  • Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
  • Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
  • Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
