RTX is seeking a Principal Systems Security / Cyber Engineer to join the HBMAS SSE team in Aurora, CO. The role focuses on implementing robust security architectures and RMF-based controls to protect DoD/IC-grade systems, with travel up to CONUS/OCONUS.

A TS/SCI clearance is required and DoD A&A processes will be used. The candidate will work with AT, cryptography, SCRM, and cross-domain considerations to ensure secure product protection across programs.

Qualifications

  • Requires STEM degree or higher and 5–8 years of relevant experience.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance required prior to start date.
  • DoDM 8140.03 compliant certification (Security+, CISSP or equivalent).
  • Experience with RMF, ATO processes and NIST SP 800-37/53.

We are seeking a Principal Systems Security / Cyber Engineer to function as a key contributor for the Product Cybersecurity Organization (PCO) team. As a member of the High Band Mission Application Software (HBMAS) Systems Security Engineering (SSE) team, you will develop solutions to secure the Warfighter’s technical advantage. The SSE team creates comprehensive security solutions by leveraging multiple disciplines, including Anti-Tamper (AT), Software and Hardware Assurance, Cryptography, and Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM), to implement robust program protection across various systems. This role will be worked onsite in Aurora, CO and requires an active TS/SCI clearance. Relocation assistance is not available.

What You Will Do
  • Implement security improvements by assessing current infrastructure, evaluating threat trends, and designing secure architecture, system requirements, plans, and policies
  • Advise, support junior engineers, and develop Risk Management Framework (RMF) documents and controls validation testing for Authorizations to Operate (ATOs)
  • Analyze cybersecurity data metrics and technical test results to identify vulnerabilities and track security performance
  • Conduct cybersecurity audits to evaluate security posture, verify proper tool implementation, and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Advise and work with the Software Engineering and/or System Engineering teams to implement cybersecurity policies, harden the system, and document findings
  • CONUS/OCONUS travel (up to 25%)

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Active and transferable TS/SCI U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date
  • DoDM 8140.03 compliant certification (e.g., Security+, CISSP, or equivalent)
  • Experience analyzing operating system security features and vulnerabilities in compliance with Intelligence Community (IC) standards
  • Experience with embedded systems security (real-time embedded systems architecture)
  • Experience in systems engineering requirements and specifications, including implementing Federal and DoD Assessment and Authorization (A&A) processes, cyber security controls, and Risk Management Framework (RMF) documentation in accordance with NIST Special Publication (SP) 800-37, NIST SP 800-53, and DoD Instruction 8510.01
  • Experience in security systems engineering across hardware, software, and application solutions in both standalone and LAN/WAN configurations
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Familiar with Program Protection Plans (PPP), DoDI 5000.02, and DoDI 5200.39
  • Experience working on U.S. Government contract proposals as a Cybersecurity Engineering subject matter experienced professional
  • Familiar with cloud and/or virtualization technologies
  • Familiar with Containerization (e.g., Docker/Kubernetes)
  • Familiar with Cross Domain Solutions (CDS)
  • Experience with IT, network, and system security administration, including security configuration and account management best practices for Windows, UNIX, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and Cisco Systems
  • Experience utilizing information security toolsets, including anti-virus, vulnerability assessment, HIDS/NIDS, host-based and endpoint security, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), and centralized auditing resources
  • Written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to work independently

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
