JOB TITLE: Principal Systems Safety Engineer

ABOUT THE JOB:

Developing and implementing safety strategies, conducting hazard analyses, and providing guidance on safety regulations and standards. Maintain the highest level of safety for our products and solutions. Our complex system is an integrated avionics platform for Part 23 and Part 25 aircraft. The system provides a modernized cockpit with touch screen displays and full avionics capabilities including flight management, navigation, communication systems, etc. Our applications systems team develops solutions that drive innovation, safety, and efficiency for key customer programs. In this role, you will have an impact on the safety and reliability of our systems, ensuring that they meet the highest industry standards and regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Develop and implement System Safety strategies for avionics applications
2. Conduct hazard analyses and risk assessments
3. Development and analysis of fault trees
4. Provide guidance on safety regulations and standards to meet system certifications
5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure safety requirements are met
6. Participate in safety reviews and audits with customers and aviation authorities

REQUIRED SKILLS:

1. Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering Discipline
2. 6+ years’ experience with avionics systems
3. Experience using guidance provided in SAE/ARP 4761 and SAE/ARP 4754A
4. Knowledge of the FHA-FDAL-IDAL Analysis process per ARP4754A
5. Knowledge of Systems Development Lifecycle
6. Ability to review System Level Design and Requirements to Satisfy Architectural Safety Decisions in support of top-level analysis
7. Experience performing Fault Tree Analysis, FMEA, Common Mode Analysis, and Fault Hazard Assessment
8. Strong written and verbal communication skills
9. Good interpersonal skills
10. Ability to quickly analyze, incorporate, and apply new information and concepts
11. Self-motivated and takes the initiative to get things done
12. Ability to make autonomous decisions
13. Experience coordinating with cross-functional design teams

PREFERRED SKILLS:

1. Integrated Modular Avionics experience
2. Familiarity with DO-178C
3. Familiarity with aircraft Interface Control Documents
4. Experience with CAFTA (computer aided fault tree analysis) tools
5. Experience with DOORS NG
6. Experience with JIRA
7. Experience with Configuration Management and Change Management processes
