About The Role

As a Systems Engineer, you'll research, architect, model, simulate, test, certify, and improve cutting-edge products and services, developing complex system architectures from operational concepts through detailed design, testing, and deployment. You will own systems throughout their lifecycle and lead a team of engineers using MBSE tools to develop requirements and architectures for a novel spacecraft system.

Sierra Space is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer - Specialty Engineering Lead to join our Defense team. You will lead the development of advanced system solutions, ensuring alignment and direction throughout the development process. A passion for space protection and systems development is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expertise in disciplines such as Materials & Processes, Contamination, Electrical, Electronic, Electromechanical, and Electro-optical Parts Management, Radiation Control, and Electromagnetic Environmental Effects.
• Drive multidisciplinary system development initiatives and architect comprehensive systems.
• Resolve conflicting requirements and ensure project alignment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and subject matter experts.
• Manage system requirements, architectures, and concepts of operation.
• Oversee system integration and verification activities.
• Identify and mitigate technical risks.
• Contribute to process improvements and policy development.
• Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

About You

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience; Masters +13 years preferred.
• Typically 15+ years of related experience.
• Expertise in Specialty Engineering disciplines.
• Experience integrating COTS components for defense programs.
• Experience with rapid development and innovative technologies.
• Strong systems engineering principles and lifecycle understanding.
• Active Secret clearance with ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active Top Secret with SCI clearance.
• Experience with MBSE, requirements management tools, and frameworks.
• Background in Aerospace and Defense Industry.
• Leadership in complex development projects.
• Knowledge of space domain design and system architectures.

Physical and Working Conditions

• Frequent walking, sitting, standing, climbing stairs.
• Occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.
• Rare outdoor exposure, fumes, or loud noises.
