Job summary

Collins Aerospace is seeking an experienced engineer for the Advanced Structures team in Riverside. You will design, develop, and integrate automated systems for material and process development, leading cross-functional technology efforts and ensuring TRL/MRL milestones are met.

You will work with engineers and technicians to advance prototypes, analyze processes, and implement lean improvements while collaborating across programs, operations, and suppliers.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a degree in STEM and 8+ years experience, or an advanced degree with 5+ years.
  • Experience in multi-axis robotics programming and PLC systems.
  • Systems development and integration experience; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and integrate automated systems for process and material development projects.
  • Lead and support technology development aligning with TRL/MRL gates.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians on daily process development.
  • Interface across programs, manufacturing, supply chain, and customers to ensure on-time delivery.
  • Provide technical support for prototype and demonstrator builds; review planning docs.
  • Contribute to PFMEA, control build plans, and lean improvement initiatives.

What You Will Do:


  • Design, develop, and integrate automated systems that support process and/or material development projects

  • Lead and support the development of technologies in adherence with TRL and MRL toll gates.

  • Working closely with Engineers and Engineering Technicians, supporting daily process development.

  • Interacting between Engineering groups (programs, chief office engineer, aftermarket, manufacturing/operations, facilities, supply chain, test labs, suppliers and customers); ensuring on-time and quality execution of materials & process project tasks and deliverables.

  • Utilize manufacturing process experience to provide technical support and consultation for executing prototype and demonstrator builds.

  • Review, understand, provide feedback, and approve manufacturing planning documents.

  • Ensures adherence to all compliance requirements (TRL, MRL, EHS, CMS, QMS, PPAP etc.)

  • Engages in problem solving initiatives & challenges the status quo (e.g. root cause and corrective action investigations, OEE, FPY, customer escapes)

  • Participates and contributes on Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and control build plans.

  • Identifies opportunities on drawings and specifications to influence changes to engineering designs.

  • Participates in tool design reviews to ensure tools are feasible for processes.

  • Participates in process improvement and continuous improvement activities.

  • Implements results of lean manufacturing initiatives.


Qualifications You Must Have:


  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.

  • Multi-Axis robotics programming and operation experience.

  • PLC programming and operating experience.

  • Systems development and integration experience.

  • Experience as a technical SME, relationship building, effective communications, lean leader, influencer.

  • Product development and introduction experience.


Qualifications We Prefer:


  • 3-5 years industry experience in the field of composite manufacturing and process development is required, ideally with a strong focus on composite Aerostructures.

  • Proficient oral and written communications skills in a very collaborative environment.

  • Experience working with fiber optic laser systems.

  • Advanced knowledge of robotic programming and operation.

  • Knowledge of metallic material & processing specifications for Aerospace industry.

  • Extensive Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

  • Experience interpreting Engineering drawings and 3D CAD Designs (CATIA).

  • Knowledge of thermoset and thermoplastic composite material & processing specifications for Aerospace industry.

The salary range for this role is 118,300 USD - 224,900 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
