Job summary

Collins Aerospace, part of RTX, is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to lead full lifecycle development of ground and airborne systems. You will act as a subject matter expert and oversee lab activities, modeling interfaces, and system integration within the Mission Systems group.

The role requires strong integration and test experience, EVMS knowledge, and communication skills to coordinate with IPT leaders, HW/SW engineers, and program managers.

Qualifications

  • Strong integration and test experience with test procedure development, execution and reporting.
  • Familiar with EVMS and project performance measurement.
  • Proficient with Microsoft tools and task boards.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee full lifecycle development from CONOPS to Validation.
  • Act as SME with advanced knowledge in the discipline.
  • Oversee lab activities: setup, configuration management, testing.
  • Ensure scalable modeling interfaces between hardware and software.
  • Lead system integration within target environments.
  • Coach and delegate work to junior professionals.

The Strategic Communications team is seeking an experienced Principal Systems Engineer in a role committed to creating creative and cost-effective solutions for our ground and airborne systems.

As part of Collins Aerospace, Mission Systems organization, we specialize in developing advanced communication systems, ground and flight computers, sensors, cyber and software solutions, as well as providing integration of Mission Systems. As part of the Strategic Communications Department, the Systems Engineering department supports a variety of communications systems including SATCOM (including AEHF, EHF, X-Band, Ka-Band, Ku-Band, C-Band, and PTW), Line-of-Site (LOS) Radio Terminals and Secure Switching Networks.

What You Will Do
  • Oversee the development of full lifecycle solutions from CONOPS to Validation
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert within discipline with advanced to expert knowledge of work area
  • Oversee and perform lab activities including definition, setup, configuration management, and testing
  • Ensure Modeling, Hardware, and Software Interfaces utilize a scalable ontology
  • Oversee and support the Integration of Solutions within their target environment
  • Coach, review, and delegate work of lower-level professional
  • Contribute to the development of goals of the discipline and planning efforts (Cost and Schedule)
  • Influence others regarding policies, practices, and procedures
  • Manage moderately sized projects or processes
  • Manage the entrance and exit criteria of Design Reviews, Integration, Dry Run, and Formal Qualification Testing
  • Review, moderate and document major changes in systems or processes to solve difficult and often complex problems
  • Analyze and document system behaviors
  • Support system trade studies, requirements analysis allocation to subsystems

Qualifications You Must Have
  • Strong integration and test experience including test procedure development, test execution, test reporting, and test automation
  • Knowledge of or application of Earned Value Management System (EVMS)
  • Proficient in tooling to include Microsoft products, or tasking boards (Jira, IBM EWM, etc.)
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Experience in Communication Radio and Systems: SATCOM, LOS/BLOS, AEHF, PTW, or V/UHF
  • Experience in Environmental Qualification Testing (EQT)
  • Proficient in tooling to include CAMEO, Rhapsody
  • Experience in proposal support including writing Basis of Estimates (BOEs)
  • Experience in System Level Integration, Verification, and Validation (IV&V) for ground based, ship, submarine, or airborne platforms
  • Experience in Virtual Machine design and deployment
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation) and ability to effectively communicate with IPT leaders, hardware and software development engineers, specialty engineers, program managers, and our customers

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
