Job description

At Evotec’s headquarters in Hamburg, Germany, the Global IT Systems Engineering Team is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated

Principal Systems Engineer (all genders)

Fulltime and permanent

Responsibilities:

  • Design and deploy HPC solutions tailored to the specific needs of Evotec’s projects
  • Optimize performance of existing HPC systems, including parameter tuning, resource management, and algorithm improvements
  • Manage computing clusters, including hardware configuration, software installation, performance monitoring, and maintenance
  • Plan and implement system changes; support performance and error analysis
  • Oversee release and patch management of the Linux environment
  • Ensure reliability, performance, and scalability of existing HPC systems
  • Advise departments on complex technical issues and support scientific requirements
  • Provide technical support to HPC users, including troubleshooting, training, and documentation
  • Collaborate with data scientists, developers, and researchers to understand needs and propose solutions
  • Stay up to date with new technologies and best practices in HPC to maintain cutting-edge infrastructure

Qualifications:

  • Degree in IT or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Strong knowledge of Linux (especially Ubuntu) and HPC architectures
  • Experience with cluster managers and job schedulers (e.g., Slurm, Bright Cluster Manager)
  • Skills in profiling and optimizing HPC application performance
  • Familiarity with high-performance file systems (e.g., Isilon, VAST Storage, Lustre, GPFS, Ceph)
  • Experience with infrastructure provisioning in public cloud environments
  • Knowledge of VMware vSphere, Harbor, GitLab, MinIO, Rancher, and Loki is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-specialists
  • Strong team orientation and very good English skills
