Overview
Insight Global is seeking a Principal Microsoft Enterprise Systems Engineer to lead the design, modernization, automation, and operational excellence of enterprise infrastructure platforms. This individual will serve as a senior technical leader responsible for managing multiple large-scale infrastructure initiatives simultaneously while driving Microsoft's cloud, identity, collaboration, security, and AI capabilities across the organization.
This role blends enterprise architecture, Azure infrastructure, Microsoft 365 administration, identity management, automation, and AI-driven engineering practices. The ideal candidate is passionate about modernizing infrastructure, eliminating manual processes through automation, and leveraging emerging AI technologies to improve operational efficiency.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of enterprise infrastructure engineering experience.
- Strong experience with Microsoft 365 collaboration technologies.
- Deep understanding of Microsoft Entra ID, identity governance, conditional access, and authentication technologies.
- Experience implementing automation frameworks and workflow orchestration solutions.
- Hands-on experience with Power Platform, Power Automate, N8N, or similar automation tools.
- Experience supporting enterprise security, governance, compliance, and endpoint management initiatives.
- Experience managing hybrid infrastructure environments spanning cloud and on-premises platforms.
- Strong knowledge of VMware administration and enterprise virtualization platforms.
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and technical leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Purview.
- Experience implementing passwordless authentication solutions.
- Knowledge of AI platforms and LLM-based engineering tools.
- Experience with Automated Incident Management and AI-assisted support workflows.
- Microsoft certifications related to Microsoft 365, Identity, Security, or Azure.
- CCNA or equivalent networking knowledge.
- Home lab, personal infrastructure projects, or passion projects demonstrating continuous learning and technical curiosity.

Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Infrastructure & Technical Leadership
- Lead the architecture, engineering, and delivery of enterprise infrastructure solutions across Azure, Microsoft 365, VMware, and on-premises environments.
- Manage and deliver 2-4 concurrent infrastructure projects while providing technical leadership throughout planning, implementation, and operational support.
- Define enterprise infrastructure strategy, standards, and roadmaps aligned with business and security objectives.
- Partner with technical teams, business stakeholders, and executive leadership to drive enterprise modernization initiatives.
- Mentor engineers and establish best practices across infrastructure, automation, and cloud operations.
Identity & Access Management
- Lead enterprise identity initiatives utilizing Microsoft Entra ID.
- Drive the organization's transition toward passwordless authentication and modern identity management practices.
- Design and implement Conditional Access policies, MFA strategies, identity governance, and Zero Trust principles.
- Support secure AI agent identities and emerging identity frameworks for automated workflows and AI-driven platforms.
- Ensure compliance with security and governance requirements across enterprise environments.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for Microsoft 365 technologies, including:
- Microsoft Teams
- SharePoint Online
- Exchange Online
- OneDrive
- Power Platform
- Develop and support enterprise collaboration solutions that improve productivity and user experience.
- Partner with Service Desk and Endpoint teams to deploy, support, and optimize Microsoft technologies across workstations and enterprise environments.
- Implement governance and compliance controls utilizing Microsoft Purview.
- Design and support Azure infrastructure solutions, including hybrid cloud environments.
- Manage Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) environments and virtual workspace solutions.
- Support Azure Arc deployments and hybrid infrastructure integrations.
- Collaborate on cloud modernization initiatives while balancing on-premise and cloud workloads.
- Ensure cloud environments are scalable, secure, resilient, and operationally efficient.
- Build automated workflows, monitoring solutions, and operational tooling using both traditional scripting and AI-assisted development.
- Develop infrastructure automation through:

- Eliminate manual processes and improve service delivery through workflow orchestration and automation technologies.
- Promote Infrastructure as Code and configuration management best practices where applicable.
- Drive adoption of AI-powered operational workflows and engineering solutions.
- Support development of AI agents designed to assist with service desk operations and Tier III support workflows.
- Evaluate and leverage modern AI tools including:
- OpenRouter
- Codex
- Utilize AI technologies to automate monitoring, remediation, troubleshooting, documentation, and operational tasks.
- Partner with technical teams to identify opportunities for AI-assisted infrastructure management.
VMware & Hybrid Infrastructure
- Support and optimize a large VMware environment consisting of more than 150 hosts.
- Participate in long-term infrastructure modernization efforts that reduce dependency on legacy virtualization platforms.
- Maintain operational excellence across both cloud and on-premises environments during modernization initiatives.
