Job summary

Edgewater Technical Associates, LLC is seeking a Principal Structural Design Engineer to support the Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC. The role requires leadership over complex nuclear/industrial design projects and close collaboration with cross-functional teams. Qualified candidates will have PhD/MS/BS with extensive experience, proficiency in STAAD, and knowledge of major codes.

U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a DOE clearance are required.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in engineering with 5+ years' nuclear/industrial design experience.
• Proficiency in STAAD and knowledge of IBC, AISC, ACI, AWS, NFPA and OSHA.
• U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain a DOE security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Define scope of programs and develop quality solutions for complex problems.
• Lead and guide junior engineers on related tasks and reviews.
• Apply specialized knowledge to resolve challenging technical issues.
• Incorporate advanced practices and complex material or process requirements.
• Provide direction across departments for new engineering approaches.
• Prepare schedules, budgets, and manpower plans; monitor progress.
• Communicate results to customers, colleagues and management; may publish reports.

Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking qualified candidates for a Principal Structural Design Engineer opportunity to support the Savannah River Site.

Work Location: Aiken, SC

Duties

• Define scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to challenges which involve unique or controversial problems.
• Creatively meet all company and industry requirements and apply site systems to achieve quality, timely and cost-effective results.
• Give quality guidance and assistance to less senior professionals on related tasks.
• Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, to resolve complex problems.
• Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
• Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise.
• Provide direction and position responsibility both inside and outside department lines on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new applications of existing engineering or scientific principles.
• Evaluate the results of programs and prepare reports and recommendations based on these evaluations.
• Identify and recommend improvements where established technology components and methodology are inadequate for solution.
• Keep informed of the advancement of technology as applied through one's area of technology.
• Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving technical tasks identified by management.
• Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed.
• Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscripts form to customers colleagues and management.
• Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.
• Enhance expertise in field through leadership in local technical societies.
• Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles.

Education/Yrs. Of Experience

• Ph.D. degree in applicable science or engineering discipline and 5+ years’ experience OR a MS with 8+ years’ experience OR a BS with 10+ years’ experience or more.

Skills/Experience

• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in design and analysis of nuclear or industrial facilities.
• Must demonstrate working knowledge of STAAD.
• Must demonstrate working knowledge of National Codes and Standards such as IBC, AISC (ASD and LRFD), ACI, AWS, NFPA, and OSHA.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in using MicroStation 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software.
• Previous experience working at SRS.
• Professional Engineering license.

• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" security clearance (an active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties).
