Job summary

PG&E in the Bay Area seeks a Principal Electric Standards & Work Methods Specialist to lead technical initiatives, mentor colleagues, and shape standards, procedures and training for grid safety and reliability.

The role collaborates with Transmission Line Tower and Civil Engineers to develop tower and foundation methods, supports QA/QC efforts, and provides field guidance during maintenance, storms and projects, with compensation details disclosed to reflect market value.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 12 years in the electric utility industry.
  • At least 10 years' experience as a Journeyman.
  • Estimator/ADE or in an engineering discipline.
  • Certification in Journeyman Lineman, Journeyman Cable Splicer, Journeyman Electrician, Journeyman Electrical Technician, Journeyman System Operator, ADE or other engineering accreditation.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical leadership within the department, and mentors, develops and provides guidance to other specialists.
  • Aids in the development of goals, metrics and workplan strategies.
  • Provides leadership and direction for electric asset and engineering strategy initiatives.
  • Acts as a witness assistant by supporting the development of testimony, work papers and discovery responses, settlement documents and communications materials.
  • Provides input into training programs and requirements for repairs, maintenance, operations and equipment
  • Leads complex and/or unique projects and initiatives of broad scope with high corporate or functional priority.
  • Assists others in defining curriculum learning objectives and course outlines, and supports the design, development and updates of training content, curriculum and materials
  • Applies technical standards in accordance with company policies and procedures, identifies gaps in existing policies, procedures and work methods and communicates with key stakeholders for continuous improvement.
  • Develops and implements effective business strategies and innovative solutions based in industry best practice and benchmarking in support of the company and department.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert and thought leader and applies extensive key or unique expertise to resolve unique and complex problems. Identifies opportunities and develops solutions to improve performance

Job description

Position Summary

Provides expertise for the leadership and support of projects to ensure improved safety, reliability and efficiency of field maintenance and construction processes and programs; provides technical support for maintenance and construction departments as a liaison and advocate between Electric Standards Engineers and Maintenance & Construction departments. Incumbents provide communication and feedback on construction standards and equipment issues associated with overhead and underground electric transmission, substation, or distribution systems issues throughout the service territory; work with various departments to integrate safety into the development of construction standards, equipment designs and associated work tasks, and work to ensure safe, reliable and affordable service for our customers. Incumbents also provide technical support for leadership and field maintenance and construction crews, and provide subject matter expertise for quality control (QC) and/or quality assurance (QA), develop and update guidance documentation or technical documentation, develop and deliver training curriculum, investigate equipment failures and material problem reports, provide field support for emergency response activities and may be involved in special projects and initiatives.

The Principal Electric Standards & Work Methods Specialist updates and develops manuals, standards, procedures, job-aids, bulletins and associated guidance documents for other lines of business (LOB). Incumbents may also be assigned to other teams or LOBs responsible for technical documentation, training development and delivery support, QA and QC, human performance reporting and initiatives (SIF & CAP), equipment failure investigations and material problem reports (MPR), field support for construction and maintenance including changes to maintenance programs, storm and emergency response activities, and/or involvement in special projects including the implementation of business or software systems in the field where respective LOB subject matter expertise experience applies.

This Principal Electric Standards and Work Methods Specialist position will support the Transmission Line Tower Department and work closely with the Transmission Line Civil Standards Engineers to develop tower and foundation related work methods and procedures.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

Bay Area Minimum: $136,000

Bay Area Mid:$184,000
Bay Maximum: $232,000

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Certification in one or more of the following:
    • Journeyman Lineman, or
    • Journeyman Cable Splicer, or

    • Accreditation in an engineering discipline.

Desired:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • For Distribution: Rubber Glove and Hot Stick work method experience
  • For Transmission: Barehand and Towerman Experience
  • Guidance Document Author Training (CORP0521)
  • 20 years in the electric utility industry.
