Job summary

Department Overview

The Substation Electric Engineering Services team is responsible for electrical project engineering and design work for PG&E substations. This group is an integral part of the Substation Engineering Services organization which is responsible for the engineering and project management of substation projects. The team is responsible for the following:

  • Transmission Substation engineering and design
  • Distribution Substation engineering and design
  • Technical assistance on feasibility studies
  • Technical coordination with Transmission Line Engineering and design
  • Technical consultation (project options)
  • Project scope, detailed estimates, material lists
  • Equipment specifications
  • Construction support
  • Other activities as needed
Position Summary

Partners with standards engineers and specialists throughout Electric as well as internal/external customers to gather and understand both customer and regulatory electrical engineering and design standards and requirements to be documented, published, and maintained. Ensures regular updates and publications of key standards manuals/documents and processes used by internal or external customers, such as, but not limited to, project engineering, design engineering, project management, construction, maintenance, inspection, contractors, electricians, and technicians.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

Bay Area Minimum: $147,000

Bay Area Mid: $199,000
Bay Maximum: $251,000

California Minimum: $140,000

California Mid: $189,000

California Max: $238,000

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Job Responsibilities
  • Partner with substation standards engineers in developing, writing, publishing, and maintaining standard and guidance documents for new and existing engineering and design requirements related to Substation Engineering
  • Develop and provide updates annually for the Electric Substation processes, procedures, manuals, forms, templates, and job aids. Provide support, review of issues, and provide training on the contents and requirements for internal and external users and stakeholders.
  • Hold committee and subcommittee meetings with electric stakeholders relating substation engineering. Provide clarification and background to the Law department and claims investigators on any regulatory complaints.
  • Consult with committee members on the development of updates to the substation engineering standards, and processes.
  • Develop and coordinate the preparation of presentation materials for senior management and committees.
  • Develop, write, and publish documents for new and existing customer generation systems interconnecting to the PG&E system.
  • Function as main liaison between substation engineering groups and other organizational groups such as IT/Telecom, standards, planning, protection, automation, transmission, distribution, operations, etc.
  • Provide input in maintaining and managing the department's Tracking Systems (such as zClarity/SAP, SharePoint, etc.), training programs, as well as design updates to the department SharePoint sites, forms, apps, and webpages for the alignment and compliance of department documents, and technical knowledge databases
  • Work with the Technical Document Management department on the development and publication of documents, be proficient in the searching and uploading of documents into the Documentum system (D2).
  • Partner with ERIM and Documentum support team in maintaining the substation engineering library and reports in D2; acting as an ERIM coordinator for Substation Engineering and provide bi-lateral agreement for engineering drawings ownership change in D2.
  • Partner with the T&S Technology and Tools team in providing technical requirements input to the development and maintenance of substation engineering and design related applications (such as CADD, document management systems, Microsoft power platforms, etc.) and templates in supporting substation engineering and design processes and procedures. Where practical, help develop minor form apps and templates utilizing available end-user developer tools, such as Microsoft Office and Power Platform applications, SharePoint, Bluebeam, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with construction specialists, inspectors, and M&C personnel in the design, installation, and requirements for substation engineering.
  • Act as a key contributor to the team and provide mentorship and guidance to other engineers and leadership on technical expertise.
  • Consistently work with Electric Asset Management partner organizations and key stakeholders to identify, propose, and influence solutions to complex business problems and engage with leadership to promote process improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with training, knowledge share, change management, corrective actions, and communications relating substation engineering and design standards and processes.
  • Provide updates to the PG&E external customer/contractors.
Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree from an accredited college or equivalent in education and experience.
  • Thirteen (13) years total relevant electrical utility engineering and design experiences, preferably in substation.
  • Travel required approximately 20-30% of the time.
