Job Overview
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems invites you to join as a Principal or Senior Principal Software Engineer in the Guidance Navigation Control (GNC) team. In this role you will design, develop, integrate and test cutting‑edge navigation software within an Agile, model‑based engineering environment. The position requires full‑time on‑site work and a U.S. Government Secret clearance.
Responsibilities
- Develop, test, debug, and maintain high‑performance software for navigation systems.
- Perform software and system integration on state‑of‑the‑art hardware.
- Apply Model‑Based Engineering (MBE), MATLAB/Simulink, and C/Python programming to deliver mission requirements.
- Participate in Agile development practices and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, and maintain strong professional relationships.
- Demonstrate ethical conduct and integrity while challenging conventional approaches.
- Lead and mentor team members, fostering empowerment and shared responsibility.
Basic Qualifications (Principal / Senior Principal)
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.
- Principal: 5 years of hands‑on software development; Senior: 8 years.
- Master’s degree experience: Principal 3 years, Senior 6 years.
- PhD experience: Principal 1 year, Senior 4 years.
- Experience developing software in MATLAB/Simulink.
- Proficiency in C and Python.
- Familiarity with version control (ClearCase, Git, ClearQuest, or Jira).
- Model‑Based Engineering tools knowledge.
- Understanding of INS/GPS Kalman filter design and requirements.
- Collaborative development environment experience.
- U.S. citizenship required; must obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
- Full‑time on‑site work required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Secret clearance.
- Software test development and performance experience.
- DOORS usage for software requirements management.
- Expertise in sensor fusion for navigation, including IMU, GPS, barometers.
- Embedded INS/GPS navigation systems experience.
- Translation of formal software requirements into design.
- Knowledge of RTCA DO‑178B/C or similar guidelines for safety‑critical software.
- Experience with MIL‑STD‑1553, ARINC‑429, or RS‑422 communication protocols.
- Use of MATLAB for simulation and performance evaluation.
- Code analysis tools: Polyspace; test tools: LDRA, VectorCast.
Salary
- Primary Level: $114,000.00 – $171,000.00
- Secondary Level: $142,200.00 – $213,400.00
