Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a GNC Engineer (Level 2) or Principal GNC Engineer (Level 3) to design and implement flight software for air vehicles, develop simulations, and validate navigation and guidance functions. The role requires relevant STEM education and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government Secret clearance.

Occasional travel is expected. Relocation assistance may be available. The candidate will work on advanced aerospace systems and collaborate with GNC and program management teams

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with at least 2 years of relevant experience for Level 2.
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with at least 5 years of relevant experience for Level 3.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement flight software algorithms for guidance, navigation, and control of the air vehicle.
  • Design, develop, and implement simulation software to test mission requirements for the air vehicle.
  • Implement navigation functions that process data points and integrate them into models of physical reality.
  • Develop guidance functions to compute equations for positions, orientations, or trajectories.
  • Design control laws and analyze hardware and software requirements for air vehicles.
  • Communicate milestones, approaches, and findings to GNC and program management.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement flight software algorithms to support guidance, navigation, and control functions for the air vehicle.
  • Design, develop, and implement simulation software to test and verify mission requirements for the air vehicle.
  • Implement navigation functions that statistically process measured data points and integrate them into models of physical reality.
  • Develop guidance functions to formulate equations that achieve desired positions, orientations, or trajectories.
  • Design control laws and analyze hardware and software requirements for air vehicles.
  • Communicate program milestones, technical approaches, and findings to GNC and program management.
  • Apply technical standards, principles, theories, and concepts to moderate‑complex professional tasks.
  • Provide solutions to technical problems of increasing scope and complexity.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) and at least 2 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree in STEM with no experience (for Level 2).
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM and at least 5 years of relevant experience, a Master’s degree in STEM with 3 years of experience, or a PhD with no experience (for Level 3).
  • Demonstrated understanding of Guidance, Navigation, and Control systems.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret clearance; clearance not required to start employment.
  • Ability to obtain any required Program Special access within a reasonable period.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS‑Project, Visio).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience designing, developing, and validating guidance, navigation, and control systems integrating flight‑critical hardware, software, and algorithms.
  • Active U.S. Government Secret clearance.
Salary

Primary Level: $79,300.00 – $118,900.00. Secondary Level: $98,400.00 – $147,600.00. Salary ranges are guidelines; final offers consider scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions.
