Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS) seeks a Principal/Sr. Principal Software Database Engineer for the WSTARS program with hands-on experience in Software Engineering, Database Development Integration, and debugging for a fast-paced, growing, dynamic position supporting wide band satellite communications programs at our location in Orlando, Florida. NGDS is an industry leader in developing, integrating, and sustaining complex simulator systems for the US Department of Defense.

Software Database Engineer Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, document, test, and debug software that contains logical and mathematical solutions to business/mission problems.
  • Apply appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the development life cycle.
  • Diagnose problems encountered during application integration among products and address fixes/enhancements according to prescribed program processes.
  • Design and develop complex software using a variety of programming and scripting languages.
  • Familiarity with developing application software in a Windows environment, using relational databases, and knowledge of client – server applications will help set the candidate up for success.
  • The candidate will be working in an extremely dynamic and challenging environment on a day-to-day basis.

In addition, the candidate must be a team player, able to work comfortably and effectively with company team members as well as program stakeholders and DoD contractor personnel using strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills. The candidate may be required to travel in support of customer interface, technical interchange meetings, on-site technical support, and event/exercise support.

This requisition is open as a dual level opportunity. We will consider candidates at a level 3 and level 4:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Level 3: Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline and 5 years of related experience OR a Master's degree and 3 years of related experience OR a STEM PhD and 1 year of related experience
  • Level 4: Bachelor of Science degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline and 8 years of related experience, or a Master's degree and 6 years of related experience, or a STEM PhD and 4 years of related experience
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance
  • Experience with design and implementation of data warehousing technologies including relational and nonrelational databases, SQL, and data analytics
  • Experience supporting PostgreSQL database management systems running on Windows or Linux
  • Experience in full lifecycle project development
  • Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell and Python for crafting efficient automation scripts and executing database operations
  • Experience working on Agile Teams and SAFe methodologies
  • Ability to obtain Security+ or other DoD Level 2 Security Certification within 6 months
  • Experience documenting design, processes, and procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active US DoD Top Secret Clearance
  • Master of Science in Engineering or other STEM discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing automation solutions using Ansible to support distribution and operational processes
  • Experience working with DevOps Processes and Cloud Infrastructure
  • Systems administration experience, to include Windows, Linux, and VM environments
  • Understanding of enterprise-level computing platforms involving virtualization, distribution, and high availability
  • Experience with direct customer interaction
Salary Range: $95,300.00 - $142,900.00Salary Range 2: $118,600.00 - $178,000.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
