One of our most challenging new fields is Microelectronics Design and Applications (MDA), which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical new energy-efficient computing systems. MDA is seeking a Principal/Sr Principal Systems Engineer with demonstrated ability to lead systems engineers in the development of new technologies to support our innovative MDA team in support of emerging supercomputing technologies.

What You’ll get to Do:

  • Plan and support the core functions and ensure the project team has qualified staff to execute the program core functions.
  • Support close out program reviews (e.g., SRR, SFR, SDR, PDR, CDR, SVR, TRR, peer reviews, Pre-test reviews, Post Test Reviews, Pre-Ship reviews, Etc.
  • Ensure system technical compliance with the program Statement of Work (SOW) and system requirements.
  • Manage the vertical and horizontal technical integration throughout the product teams and program life cycle.
  • Collect, manage, and report the program metrics and Technical Performance Measures (TPMs).
  • Manage risk and opportunity and the production of core engineering work products and track the work products and associated program dependencies in the program schedule.
  • Coordinate between the System Architect, Chief Engineer, Product Team Lead(s), program manager, and customer to ensure the integrity and executability of the program technical baseline.
  • Align measurement objectives and activities to meet program performance goals and objectives.

This position is contingent upon clearance.

This position will serve on-site in Linthicum/ Annapolis Junction, MD, or Beavercreek, OH.

This position can be filled as a Principal Systems Engineer or Sr. Principal Systems Engineer

Basic Qualifications for Principal Systems Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of experience, a Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years of experience or a PhD in a STEM discipline with 1 year of experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with Systems Development Lifecycle - Focus on trade studies, white papers, analysis of alternatives (AoA), Risk Reduction activities (RR).
  • Experience in managing risk, opportunity, the production of core engineering work products, and associated program dependencies in the program schedule (IMS)
  • Experience in coordinating between the System Architect, Chief Engineer, Product Team Lead(s), program manager, and customer to ensure the integrity and executability of the program technical baseline
  • 3 years of experience in leading system engineering activities: trade studies, functional analysis, requirement decomposition/allocation, interface definition and specifications
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Clearance: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD TS/SCI with poly security clearance business requirements.

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Systems Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 8 years of experience, a Master's degree in a STEM discipline with 6 years of experience or a PhD in a STEM discipline with 4 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with Systems Development Lifecycle - Focus on trade studies, white papers, analysis of alternatives (AoA), Risk Reduction activities (RR).
  • Experience in managing risk, opportunity, the production of core engineering work products, and associated program dependencies in the program schedule (IMS)
  • Experience in coordinating between the System Architect, Chief Engineer, Product Team Lead(s), program manager, and customer to ensure the integrity and executability of the program technical baseline
  • 3 years of experience in leading system engineering activities: trade studies, functional analysis, requirement decomposition/allocation, interface definition and specifications
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Clearance: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD TS/SCI with poly security clearance business requirements.

Preferred Qualifications for Principal/Sr. Principal Systems Engineer:

  • Current active TS/SCI Clearance with Poly
  • Demonstrated Model Based Systems Engineering (SysML) with CAMEO or other MBSE management tools.
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering processing from generation of an Integrated Master Plan (IMP) to Work Product Breakdown into Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) for the development of complex systems of systems.
  • Master’s degree or PhD in STEM or technical management.
  • Multi-Disciplinary Engineering exposure (Software, Hardware, Electrical) and strong ability to communicate cross functionally.
  • Experience managing contracts of $10M+

Salary Range: $100,300.00 - $165,500.00Salary Range 2: $124,900.00 - $206,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
