This position is for a full-time technical role located in Dulles, VA. The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Provide mission operations support to Northrop Grumman Space Systems Satellite programs.
- Support system development activities such as requirements management, architecture development, integration and test, and formal program milestones.
- Work with systems engineers to develop operational documentation for use during on-orbit checkout and commissioning of satellites.
- Conduct testing using simulators and resolve discrepancies.
- Develop and test command procedures, telemetry pages, and other products derived from vendor-provided documentation.
- Develop test procedures and execute tests for system-level, end-to-end tests with the spacecraft.
- Support mission readiness activities including rehearsals, timeline development, and post-launch testing.
- Support launch activities, including shift work, for instrument and spacecraft LEO&A activities.
- Monitor vehicle health across all subsystems.
- Perform telemetry trending and analyze data.
- Track space vehicle configuration, including hardware, software, and configurable items.
- Support anomaly resolution efforts.
- Modify existing operations procedures based on lessons learned and develop new procedures as needed.
- Provide status reports to functional and program management.
- Support multiple programs and maintain standards within the operations group.
- Participate in meetings and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders using various tools.
- May require shift work (nights/weekends/holidays) and travel approximately 20% for simulation and launch support.
This position can be filled as a Principal (level 3) or Sr Principal (level 4) depending on experience and qualifications.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related STEM discipline.
- Minimum of 8 years (level 3) or 8 years (level 4) of related experience.
- U.S. Citizen.
- Active or current Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain SCI at the time of application.
- Prior experience with on-orbit mission operations or satellite/ground system anomalies.
- Experience with at least one satellite subsystem (e.g., ADCS/GNC, command and data handling, communications, power, thermal, flight software, orbital planning).
- System engineering experience or relevant coursework in system engineering or design.
- Experience writing technical documents for internal or external audiences.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presenting at milestone reviews.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active Top Secret/SCI clearance.
- Ability to work with diverse teams to achieve mission success.
- Experience supporting readiness activities such as MRTs, MRs, DITL, and daily operations testing.
- Experience with spacecraft launch campaigns.
- Experience with MAESTRO or RAPTOR command and control software.
- Familiarity with training and certification for space system operators.
- Experience working with government systems and processes.
Salary Range: $110,000 - $155,000
Salary Range 2: $137,000 - $196,000
The above salary ranges are guidelines; actual compensation depends on factors such as experience, education, skills, and market conditions.
