Principal/Sr. Principal FPGA Design Engineer – Northrop Grumman
Relocation assistance may be available. Clearance required: Secret. Travel: Yes, 10% of the time. Position is full‑time and on‑site at Rolling Meadows, IL.
Roles & Responsibilities
As a Principal/Sr. Principal FPGA Design Engineer, you will:
- Research, design, develop and test digital hardware products.
- Lead design projects spanning engineering, manufacturing and program management.
- Prototype and debug complex digital subsystems using FPGAs, embedded processors and high‑speed interfaces.
- Translate system performance and operational specifications into hardware requirements and test specifications.
- Coordinate with documentation revision control systems such as DOORS, ClearCase, and ClearQuest.
Basic Qualifications (Principal)
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering or related discipline with at least 5 years of digital electronics design experience
or 3 years of experience with a Master’s degree (or equivalent additional 4 years). - Experience in digital circuit design, simulation and schematic capture through test and integration.
- Hands‑on prototyping/debugging of complex digital subsystems.
- Leadership of projects with 2 or fewer team members.
- Ability to translate system specifications into hardware and test design.
- Experience with documentation revision control (DOORS, ClearCase, ClearQuest).
- US Citizen with interim Secret clearance; must obtain and maintain Secret clearance.
Basic Qualifications (Sr. Principal)
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer Engineering or related discipline with at least 8 years of digital electronics design experience
or 6 years of experience with a Master’s degree (or equivalent additional 4 years). - Extensive digital circuit design experience, including simulation and schematic capture through test and integration.
- Extensive hands‑on prototyping/debugging of complex digital subsystems involving FPGAs, embedded processors and high‑speed interfaces.
- Leadership of projects with 2 or more team members.
- Ability to translate system specifications into hardware and test design.
- Experience with documentation revision control (DOORS, ClearCase, ClearQuest).
- US Citizen with interim Secret clearance; must obtain and maintain Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with at least 12 years of digital electronics design experience.
- Knowledge of Electronic Warfare systems.
- Experience in Aerospace and/or Defense industries.
- Recent circuit card design experience using Cadence, Allegro, Mentor, or similar tools.
- Experience with ClearCase/ClearQuest and DOORS.
- Current Secret or Top Secret Security Clearance.
- Skills in team leadership, mentoring, communication, adaptability, creativity, collaboration, and independent problem solving.
Salary
Primary Level: $119,600.00 – $179,400.00; Secondary Level: $149,300.00 – $223,900.00.
