Job Summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems invites candidates for a Principal Systems Engineer or Sr. Principal Systems Engineer – Electromagnetic Environment Effects (EEE) on the Systems Engineering team. The position is located on‑site in Palmdale, CA and Melbourne, FL.

Responsibilities
  • Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.
  • Analyze systems at all levels of the product life cycle – concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
  • Convert customer or product requirements into total systems solutions while acknowledging technical, schedule and cost constraints.
  • Conduct functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Write, interpret, allocate, tailor and flow down E3 requirements to all design levels.
  • Present at design reviews to internal and external customers regarding E3 issues.
  • Write E3 design guidelines, develop models and perform analyses using EMI principles.
  • Design ground systems, chassis and harness shielding, EMI filters, and lay out interface circuitry for EMC.
  • Prepare and review E3 test procedures, test reports, technical analyses, and control plans.
  • Participate in cross‑discipline design reviews for EMC.
  • Design E3 test procedures and participate in E3 testing in accordance with MIL‑STD461, MIL‑STD464, DO‑160 and other standards.
  • Train and mentor less experienced E3 engineers and develop E3 engineering processes, procedures, documentation and protocols.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM discipline + 5 years of experience, or Master’s degree in STEM discipline + 3 years of experience (Principal).
  • Bachelor’s degree + 8 years of experience, or Master’s degree + 6 years of experience (Sr. Principal).
  • Active DOD Secret Security Clearance or ability to obtain and/or maintain before employment.
  • 1 year of experience in RF, test or design engineering; experience with MIL‑STD‑464 or MIL‑STD‑461.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with specialty in Electromagnetics, RF or analog circuitry.
  • Experience in defense and aerospace industry practices and programmatic skills supporting BOE, RFP, ROM, CAM, WBS, and risk assessments for E3 compliance.
  • Design experience with EMI filters, circuit layout, analysis for E3, shielding, lightning protection, cable and harness design.
  • Proficiency in modeling and simulation of E3 using commercial software.
