Job summary

Northrop Grumman Defense Sector in Warner Robins, GA seeks a Principal / Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer to join the Weapons Integration and Mission Solutions organization.

You will develop, modify, and maintain embedded flight programs and participate in the full software development life cycle. The role requires strong analytical and communication skills, plus the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Qualifications

• Requires a B.S. in computer science, electrical/computer engineering or equivalent STEM discipline.
• Masters/PhD candidates must meet increased experience requirements.
• Direct relevant experience: Principal level 5 years (BS), 3 years (MS), or 1 year (PhD); Sr. Principal level 8 years (BS), 6 years (MS), or 4 years (PhD).
• Proficiency in C/C++/Ada or other OO languages and experience across the full SDLC.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret security clearance.

Overview

Northrop Grumman Defense Sector seeks a Principal / Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer for its Weapons Integration and Mission Solutions (WIMS) organization in Warner Robins, GA. The engineer will join an interdisciplinary team focused on modernizing and sustaining embedded electronic warfare and radar operational flight programs.

10% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Develop, modify, and maintain embedded operational flight programs using software development best practices and standards.
• Participate in the full software development life cycle, including requirements development, modeling and design, unit to CSCI testing, integration, formal system testing, release, installation and maintenance.
• Provide leadership in solving complex problems.
• Interact frequently with Program Management, external suppliers and/or government customers; strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills are essential.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or an equivalent STEM discipline. (Masters or PhD candidates must meet increased experience requirements.)
• Direct relevant experience: 5 years (BS), 3 years (MS), or 1 year (PhD) for Principal level; 8 years (BS), 6 years (MS), or 4 years (PhD) for Sr. Principal level.
• Proficiency in C/C++/Ada or other object‑oriented programming languages.
• Proficiency in all areas of the formal software development life cycle from requirements to testing.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
• Highly motivated self‑starter able to operate efficiently in a team environment.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Must currently hold or be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret level security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active Secret security clearance.
• Experience developing/debugging software for real‑time embedded operating systems (VxWorks, Embedded Linux).
• Experience with Electronic Warfare/Radar software.
• Hands‑on software/hardware integration and testing.
• Agile software development experience.
• Experience interfacing with customers and/or stakeholders.
• Experience leading cross‑functional engineering teams.
• Experience with digital signal processing.
• Experience analyzing system requirements to derive software design and test specifications.
• Proficiency with Jira, Bitbucket and Git.
• Experience with LabView.
