We have an opening for an Electrical Circuit Design Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in the Tactical Space organization. This position will be located in Dulles, VA.
The Avionics Digital Hardware Development Group is seeking an experienced Electrical Circuit Design Engineer to perform detailed circuit design of hardware including flight part selection, schematic capture, and working with CAD personnel for part placement PCB layout planning and routing. Responsibilities also include performing detailed circuit design analyses and documentation of the design in accordance with program requirements and institutional processes.
In this role you will:
Design
Design electronic circuits with digital, mixed signal, and some analog functionality for spacecraft applications
Select components with suitable radiation qualities
Interact with other team members and software group to determine interfaces and operating characteristics
Lead the effort to incorporate a wide range of technologies and design architectures into a variety of Northrop Grumman satellite systems
Plan, prepare, and complete all design and development activities and provide technical oversight to junior engineers
Participate in or lead design reviews
Perform deep dive reviews for peers
Work with fabrication team on board layout and build. Define layout constraints and provide oversight to board layout personnel
Support board through manufacturing of breadboards, engineering models, and flight units
Select parts, identify alternate parts, and help resolve issues at the part level
Design avionics systems in assigned area by utilizing standard engineering and scientific principles
Circuit Analysis
Perform design analysis of complex avionics such as Worst-Case (WCA), Part Stress (PSA), Failure modes and Effects (FMEA), Signal Integrity (SI), and Timing analysis
Perform all detailed analysis and follow up to assure compliance with all technical, program, and contractual requirements
Documentation
Generate documentation and review packages for flight boards
Develop performance specifications
Decompose system level requirements and related performance criteria to the avionics box, card, and FPGA level
Test and Support
Support the development of a detailed test plan to evaluate avionics in accordance with stated requirements
Test and debug boards. Work either individually or as part of a team to develop test procedures and hardware to verify breadboards, engineering models, and flight units
Support delivery of board to box-level assembly, including testing and debug
Programmatic
Provide inputs for technical, cost, and schedule performance
Participate in pre-proposal cost and technical assessments
Effectively operate within a multi-discipline engineering team
Communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings
Mentoring
Mentor junior engineers to help them understand design practices & processes
Basic Qualifications
A minimum of Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering
Ability to obtain a TS clearance
US Citizenship
Principal Electrical Engineer position: At least 5 years of Electrical Circuit Design experience (3 years with Master’s)
Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer position: At least 9 years of Electrical Circuit Design experience (7 years with Master's or 4 years with a PhD)
Preferred Qualifications
Extensive technical expertise, including full knowledge of other related disciplines
Experience developing technical solutions to complex problems
Able to perform work without appreciable direction
Able to create and review designs considering long-term company objectives
Experience guiding the successful completion of major programs
Experience interacting with senior external personnel on significant technical matters
Experience with Requirements Verification using DOORS
Strong verbal and written communications skills
A passion for space and space technology
Salary Range: $107,300 - $160,900
