Job description

Principal Solution Architect

The Principal Solution Architect leads the design and implementation of enterprise technology solutions supporting Dell Medical School's clinical, research, academic, and administrative missions. This role partners with executive leadership and cross‑functional stakeholders to develop enterprise architecture strategies, guide technology modernization initiatives, and ensure scalable, secure, and interoperable solutions aligned with organizational priorities.

Purpose

The Principal Solution Architect designs and guides the implementation of complex, enterprise-wide technology solutions. The position transforms strategic vision into actionable technology roadmaps, develops enterprise solution architectures, and provides architectural governance for major initiatives supporting healthcare delivery, research, education, and administrative operations.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate emerging technologies, vendor solutions, and strategic technology investments.
  • Prepare executive‑level presentations communicating enterprise architecture strategy and technology direction.
  • Partner with clinical, operational, research, administrative, and executive leaders to gather and translate business requirements.
  • Build cross‑functional partnerships supporting enterprise architecture adoption.
  • Facilitate solution design workshops and architecture reviews.
  • Communicate architectural decisions, roadmaps, and technical recommendations to technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Lead organizational change initiatives across complex, multi‑stakeholder environments.
  • Define and maintain enterprise architecture principles, standards, templates, and governance processes.
  • Maintain an enterprise technology solution catalog.
  • Lead architecture governance reviews supporting organizational compliance.
  • Mentor architects, engineers, and technical staff on architecture frameworks and best practices.
  • Provide architectural oversight for enterprise technology initiatives and transformation programs.
  • Ensure project execution aligns with enterprise architecture strategy and organizational standards.
  • Coordinate integration of cloud, hybrid, and on‑premises technology environments.
  • Validate solution scalability, performance, reliability, and security in collaboration with infrastructure and cybersecurity teams.
  • Conduct post‑implementation architecture reviews.
  • Participate in disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
  • Represent the organization during vendor briefings, conferences, and technical forums.
  • Support merger and acquisition technology assessments and integration planning.
  • Contribute to enterprise capital planning and long‑term technology investment strategies.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Information Technology, Health Informatics, or related field.
  • Minimum ten years of experience in enterprise architecture or solution design.
  • Experience supporting healthcare, academic medicine, research, or higher education organizations.
  • Experience leading technology planning and implementation for new healthcare facilities or major capital projects.
  • Experience with Epic, ERP platforms, Microsoft Azure, and enterprise cloud technologies.
  • Knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards, including HL7 and FHIR.
  • Experience developing enterprise architecture roadmaps supporting digital transformation initiatives.
  • Experience collaborating with executive leadership on strategic technology planning.
  • TOGAF Certification.
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect.
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
  • SAFe Architect Certification.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification or equivalent.

$189,279 + depending on qualifications
