Job summary

RTX seeks a Principal Software Security Engineer to join the Software Product Assurance team in El Segundo, CA, delivering world‑class security software for deployed sensor systems.

You will design and implement security‑centric embedded software in C/C++, ensure process adherence, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to review designs and verify system maturity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in STEM and at least 8 years of software experience.
• Expertise with C/C++ and embedded software security.
• Experience with static analysis concepts, methods and tools.
• Familiarity with real‑time embedded OS (VxWorks, Embedded Linux) and embedded processors.
• Scripting expertise in Python or Perl.
• Active U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/hold Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Implement security principles in embedded software design, development, integration and testing.
• Develop software in C/C++ on multiple computing platforms.
• Ensure Software Product Assurance processes are followed across programs.
• Understand real‑time software design and performance implications of security implementations.

We are currently seeking a Principal Software Security Engineer to join our Software Product Assurance team in El Segundo, CA.

What You Will Do

Our mission is to provide world class Security Software to be used in developing and supporting deployed sensor systems on various platforms.

• Implement Software Security principles to embedded software design, development, integration, and testing of real‑time sensor software.
• Develop software applications using C and C++ languages on a variety of computing platforms.
• Ensure the SW Product Assurance processes are followed on our programs.
• Understand real‑time software design and the performance implications associated with specific System Security implementations.
• Work closely with cross‑functional Engineering teams to define and implement Test Driven Multidisciplinary Capability (TDMC) based execution development and deployment requirements.
• Work in a common development environment to support and facilitate program ability to leverage specific capabilities.
• Interface with customer community to review technical design and support verification of system maturity.

Qualifications (Essential)

• Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of relevant software experience.
• Expertise with C / C++.
• Experience with Static analysis concepts, methods & tools.
• Experience with Xilinx UltaScale+ MPSoC, Versal, or similar Embedded Processors.
• Experience with embedded OS like VxWorks, Embedded Linux, or similar.
• Experience using scripting languages like Python, Perl, or similar.
• Embedded Software Security experience.
• Active and transferable U.S. Government issued Secret clearance is required prior to start date.
• U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications (Preferred)

• Experience with Secure boot, containerization and software hardening.
• Experience with Cryptographic Algorithms.
• Experience in a technical leadership role to grow and lead a small technical team.
• Experience/knowledge of any of the following: Designing, implementing, testing, or fielding real‑time security‑oriented solutions on Department of War (DoW) programs (embedded experience highly preferred).
• Kernel or Device Driver development.
• Petalinux/Yocto operating systems.
• Agile/Scrum/Kanban frameworks and DevSecOps environments.
• Knowledge of modern computer architecture and hardware technologies including: ARM Architecture.
• Interface protocols: PCIe, GPIO, I2C, SATA.
• Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs).
• Application‑Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs).
• Using software configuration management and bug tracking tools.
• Experience with validation and verification of software applications.

Salary

The salary range for this role is 118,300 USD - 224,900 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
