Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Software System Safety Engineer (Level 2 or 3) to join our team. The position is located in Melbourne, Florida, with a focus on safety engineering across complex aviation systems.

The role requires strong collaboration, communication, and independence, with experience in C++ and Python and the ability to obtain SAP clearance. Relocation assistance may be available and travel is required up to 10%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of science in STEM with 2+ years of experience, or Master of science in STEM with 3+ years.
• Active US Government Secret clearance or higher (with BI within 6 years or Continuous Evaluation).
• Ability to obtain and maintain SAP clearance.
• Experience in C++ and Python.

Responsibilities

• Applies safety engineering principles per MIL-STD-882 and software safety per JSSSEH.
• Assesses complex aviation systems to identify hazards and mitigating controls.
• Communicates with leadership and customers; collaborates with design teams.
• Reviews safety analyses, test plans, and related documentation for airworthiness.
• Develops and maintains system safety artifacts and requirements.
