Job summary

The Options Clearing Corporation in Chicago seeks an experienced software engineering leader to develop and deliver business features in our high‑volume trading platform. You will integrate with upstream data sources, present data in a polished UI, and help ensure rock‑solid reliability on the busiest trading days.

What You’ll Do

This role will be responsible for the development and delivery of business features in that application, integrating with a variety of upstream data-sources and presenting data through the user interface, all while enriching and advancing the platform. This software must achieve a blend of data-rich presentation, performance, user experience, and the capacity to support the busiest trading days in the world economy with rock-solid reliability. The candidate must be able to solve problems creatively, communicate effectively, and proactively engage in technical decision making to achieve these objectives. A team player and work well with business, technical and non-technical professionals in agile environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily.

• Help build a stronger team to support in-house development as the vendor engagement comes to an end.


• Technically help team in areas of DevOps, backend development and UI development.


• Technically collaborating with other leads to figure out complex project solutions involving multiple systems


• Ensure good project health by helping solve complex issues and plan for future hurdles while keeping delivery timelines into perspective.


• Be hands on involved in coding, testing, troubleshooting, debugging, and documenting the systems


• Get the application ready to handle production by ensuring delivery and planning of nonfunctional aspects.


• Recommending technologies and tools that improve the efficiency and quality of OCC's systems and development processes.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of software development experience


• 10+ years of experience in Java based applications


• 4+ years of experience with cloud and DevOps (AWS, EKS, Kubernetes, Docker, Rancher, Harness)


• 4+ years of experience with CICD (Jenkins, JIRA, GIT)


• 2+ years of experience with distributed applications


• 2+ years of experience with application security tools


• Experience with technically leading teams


• Experience with Relational and non-relational DB


• Experience with Logging / monitoring frameworks and tools


• Understanding of IAM and secure coding practices (OWASP, Sysdig, Black Duck, Veracode)


• Ability to write clean, bug-free code that is easy to understand and easily maintainable ‘Get stuff done’ and flexible mindset for greater good of the organization


• Intellectually curious and eager to learn

Technical Skills

• Java based software development experience


• Web application development experience


• Experience working with four or more of the following: Unix/Linux environments, event-driven systems, transaction processing systems, distributed and parallel systems, large software system development, security software development, public-cloud platforms


• Understanding of functional programming, object-oriented design, industry best practices, software patterns, and architecture principles


• Understanding of the following types of testing: unit, integration, system, functional, non-functional, regression, performance, security, and acceptance


• Understanding of trouble shooting performance issues and multi-threaded development


• Experience with support and how to handle critical issues for prod like environments

Education and/or Experience

BS degree in Computer Science, similar technical field required Masters preferred

Compensation

The salary range listed for any given position is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. If hired at OCC, your final base salary compensation will be determined by factors such as skills, experience and/or education. In addition, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as part of any final offer. We typically do not hire at the maximum of the range in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a substantial benefits package as noted on www.theocc.com/careers All employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus. Discretionary bonuses are based on various factors, including, but not limited to, company and individual performance and are not guaranteed.

Salary Range$172,700.00-$286,800.00

Incentive Range23%to30%

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary incentive compensation award, for which the target range is listed above (see Incentive Range). The amount of such award, if any, will be based on various factors, including without limitation, both individual and company performance.
