What You’ll get to Do:

As a Principal Software Engineer within the Software and Digital Technologies Organization you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. Using Model-based Engineering, DevSecOps and Agile practices we continue to evolve how we deliver critical national defense products and capabilities for the warfighter. The software engineering role will be supporting Electro-Optic and Infrared (EO/IR) sensor systems for NGMS Emerging Capabilities Development (ECD) program area. ECD represents the research & development side of the company, hosting a variety of programs that rapidly turn cutting edge technology concepts into fielded systems the warfighter needs on a short horizon. Working in ECD offers engineers the unique opportunity of experiencing cradle-to-grave system development lifecycles with program durations of 1-3 years, at which point successful programs are transitioned to a production area for long term development and sustainment. Successful engineers in ECD are adaptable, naturally curious, and willing to take a variety of roles that stretch their expertise and widen their skill set. For software engineers those roles include signal processing/algorithm development, high-level system control logic, low-level real-time control logic, hardware/software integration, operator GUI development, system integration and test, as well as project leadership.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Identifying risks, suggesting mitigation, tracking defects, developing resolutions, and reporting status.

  • Develop and execute unit tests and build verification test plans, and track and report test status.

  • Conduct reviews of software related products, software designs, and additional technical documents.

  • Active participation in Integrated Product Teams (IPT), design reviews, and other reviews, as required.

  • Actively participate in the technical peer reviews to ensure system/software requirements are being met from an end-to-end system point of view.

The Software and Digital Technologies Organization is hiring for the following sub-organization:

  • Advanced Electro-Optic and Infrared Systems: Apply cutting edge technologies to enhance performance of sensor systems such as infrared search and track (IRST) and laser radar (LADAR) for remote sensing applications.

This position is contingent on the successful transfer of a current/active DoD Secret clearance and the ability to obtain a Special Program Access (SAP) prior to start.

Basic Qualifications:

5 years of relevant professional experience with a bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline; 3 years with Masters; 1 years with a PhD. An additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • U.S Citizenship is required.

  • A current/active DoD Secret clearance

  • Ability to obtain a Special Program Access (SAP) prior to start.

  • Experience working in C/C++

  • Proficiency in working with real time embedded software.

  • Experience with full software lifecycle: specification, design, implementation, integration, debug and maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in real-time embedded software development knowledge of EO/IR sensor systems, particularly IRST and LADAR

  • Experience in algorithmic application development and optimization

  • Experience with development and optimization of CUDA-based GPU software

  • Experience in software/firmware/hardware integration, particularly in lab/ground/flight test conditions

  • Experience with Linux Operating Systems

  • Experience with Visual Studio, VSCode, and/or Qt IDEs

  • Experience with MATLAB and/or Python

  • Experience in Open Architecture Solutions

  • Experience with writing automated tests

  • Experience with the Atlassian tool set, Model Based Engineering, and DevSecOps best practices

Salary Range: $105,400.00 - $158,000.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
