Atom Computing is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the software platform that orchestrates quantum computers. You will guide architecture for workload coordination, interfacing with hardware control, and data management, while partnering with hardware teams and quantum engineers.

The role emphasizes backend work (Python/Rust) with some frontend (TypeScript/React) and is based in Boulder, CO or Austin, TX.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated technical achievements.
• Proficiency with Python and SQL.
• Experience developing and operating software in Linux environments.
• Familiarity with Git, automated testing, and modern software practices.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure and Terraform.
• Experience building TypeScript/React frontend components.
• Willingness to learn quantum concepts related to the role.
• Experience with a compiled language such as C++ or Rust.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for the software platform coordinating quantum computing workloads.
• Set technical direction and architecture across the stack, interfacing with hardware control/ calibration systems.
• Rewrite and productionize prototype code into reliable, maintainable services.
• Mentor engineers and raise the bar on code quality, design, and engineering practice.
• Deploy, monitor, and support the production platform; participate in on-call rotations.
• Collaborate with infrastructure to strengthen CI/CD pipelines and shipping stability.
• Represent Atom Computing's engineering work in customer engagements and external forums.
