The Red Hat OpenShift Service Mesh team is looking for a motivated Principal Software Engineer to join and grow with us. As a member of our team, you will help improve and optimize Istio for use within our enterprise Kubernetes platform, Red Hat OpenShift. Using your expertise, you will work with Red Hat and the Istio community to deliver features, enhancements, and bug fixes for the benefit of our customers and the broader community of Istio users.

What you will do:
Work with other members of the team to improve and optimize Istio for delivery as part of the OpenShift Service Mesh product. Work will include feature development, enhancements, bug fixes, and security fixes in the Istio/Maistra code bases (upstream community and product), as well as work supporting the build and delivery of the OpenShift Service Mesh product.
Collaborate with other engineers on the team and the Istio community on the design and development of features, enhancements, and bug fixes within Istio/Maistra.
Mentor and coach junior team members, and work with cross functional teams across Red Hat.
Engage with our support team to help them resolve customer issues.
Develop examples demonstrating features of Istio within Red Hat OpenShift.
Support the build and release of OpenShift Service Mesh.
What you will bring:
Highly experienced in software development.
Ability to collaborate with other engineers on the team and the Istio community on the design and development of features, enhancements, and bug fixes within Istio/Maistra.
3+ years of experience programming with Go, with experience implementing controllers and/or operators on Kubernetes.
3+ years experience working with cloud technologies like Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker, and/or other cloud platforms.
Knowledge of networking fundamentals and protocols such as TCP, TLS, HTTP, HTTPS, etc.
Ability to proactively identify, address, and resolve issues with minimal supervision.
Written and verbal English communication skills.
Passion for open source software, a positive attitude, and a desire to share ideas openly.
Experience contributing to an open source project/community is a plus.
Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $170,770.00 - $281,770.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.
Pay Transparency: Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity.
