Job summary

VTG is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain mission-critical software for national security initiatives. You will build scalable Python services, use Protocol Buffers and gRPC, and deploy with Kubernetes and Helm. The role requires TS/SCI with poly and 20+ years of software experience, located in Hanover, MD.

The position offers a sign-on bonus up to $10,000 and opportunities to lead architecture and mentoring across teams.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen with TS/SCI with poly.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 20 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Advanced Python development experience.
• Strong experience with distributed applications using Protocol Buffers and gRPC.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration.
• Experience developing, configuring, and maintaining Helm charts.
• Experience debugging, testing, deploying and supporting complex software systems.
• Experience with automated GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with databases and messaging systems such as MongoDB, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ.

Responsibilities

• Analyze user, system, and mission requirements to derive software design and performance requirements.
• Design, develop, modify, test, integrate, and maintain complex mission-critical software systems.
• Develop high-quality software primarily using Python and related frameworks.
• Design distributed services using Protocol Buffers and gRPC.
• Build, deploy, configure, and maintain containerized apps using Kubernetes, Helm, and Docker.
• Develop automation scripts to improve development, testing, deployment, and operational workflows.
• Support automated GitLab CI/CD pipelines and test procedures for components and services.
• Collaborate with systems, software, and hardware engineers to define interfaces and performance expectations.
• Review engineering practices and document software development lifecycle improvements.
