Principal Software Engineer (LLM / AI systems) | Elite Hedge Fund (Private Credit / Fixed Income) | NYC

An elite alternative investment firm that specializes in private credit strategies is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to lead a high-profile effort to integrate LLMs and production-ready AI systems into their investment and operational workflows. This lean firm (about 100 headcount overall) is headquartered in NYC, and is rapidly growing. They manage about $17 billion in AUM, and are rapidly growing after the successful launch of a number of diverse products across their portfolio over the past two years.

This role will sit on a team that is currently building out infrastructure and tools to support new fixed income quant strategies. This is an opportunity to collaborate directly with portfolio managers, traders, researchers, engineers, and the CTO to build AI capabilities that enhance decision-making, streamline processes, and deliver measurable value across the business. This team is already working with unique, proprietary data sets, and this role will help introduce and leverage a variety of alternative data sources for their new strategies later this year.

Responsibilities :

• Own the end-to-end effort to design and build production-ready AI systems and tools including collaboration with key business stakeholders to understand their workflows and needs, selecting technologies, expanding use cases for existing data, gathering new data, prompt engineering, fine-tuning models, and optimizing performance
• Work directly with the CTO and other technical leaders to shape the roadmap, drive adoption, and champion AI best practices across the org

Skills :

• Experience leading an effort to design and deploy new AI, LLM, or RAG-based tools and systems
• Expertise with Java, C# / .NET, and / or Python
• Demonstrated experience designing and building data-intensive applications, services, and / or APIs
