Job description

With a career at The Home Depot, you can be yourself and also be part of something bigger.

Position Purpose:

The Enterprise Architect – EA Operations, Automation & AI plays a critical role in designing, executing, and scaling enterprise architecture operations. The role ensures that EA practices are embedded into planning, delivery, and governance processes through automation, data stewardship, and intelligent orchestration.

This architect leads the evolution of a sustainable, intelligent EA practice, enabling distributed teams while maintaining the operational infrastructure and quality standards of architecture, data, and workflows. A central focus is on building the strategy and implementation of EA intelligence by orchestrating AI agents across domains, in support of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and related planning processes.

In addition, the role is responsible for enabling automation and integration between systems to ensure that key EA artifacts, such as system landscapes, business capabilities, and process mappings, remain evergreen. This supports real-time architecture visibility, governance, and decision-making across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:

EA Tools and Process Enablement (30%)

· Define, manage, and evolve EA tools and processes that support modeling, documentation, and decision-making.

· Establish standards for metadata structure, artifact lifecycle, and EA documentation integrity.

· Align tooling and practices to enterprise-wide planning, design, and execution models.

Architecture Workflow Automation (20%)

· Design and implement automated workflows to streamline tasks like artifact validation, metadata updates, and governance readiness.

· Identify opportunities to automate manual handoffs and decisions across the EA lifecycle.

· Enable data imports and integrations between platforms to keep EA content in sync with delivery systems and operational sources of truth.

· Support low-friction, automated updates to maintain accurate architecture models.

EA Intelligence & Agent Orchestration (25%)

· Build and lead the strategy and implementation of EA intelligence, focused on orchestrating AI agents across domains.

· Coordinate agent capabilities to support SDLC and project planning activities—such as capability mapping, impact analysis, and recommendation on best practices and standards.

· Ensure architecture data and context is structured and maintained to enable agent-driven workflows and intelligent architecture assistance.

Data Readiness & Cross-Functional Workstreams (15%)

· Identify and lead cross-functional initiatives to improve the readiness, quality, and structure of EA-related data.

· Work across architecture, product, platform, and data teams to ensure reliable access to key inputs (systems, solutions, stakeholders, dependencies).

· Support the creation of curated, federated data models to sustain architecture intelligence and automation.

Practice Sustainability & Enablement (10%)

· Provide onboarding, playbooks, and templates that enable distributed teams to participate in EA processes with minimal friction.

· Champion a self-service, federated EA model that scales through enablement, not enforcement.

· Continuously improve EA operations by incorporating user feedback and tracking adoption metrics.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

· 7+ years in enterprise architecture or operations, with a track record of implementing automation, EA tools, or metadata frameworks.

· Proven ability to design and manage architecture tooling and workflows that integrate into broader SDLC and PMLC processes.

· Understanding of AI agent concepts

· Experience coordinating workstreams across teams to improve architecture content quality and data flow.

· Skilled in identifying and automating manual processes and integrating data between platforms.

· Strong communication, facilitation, and process improvement skills.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

· Strategic orchestrator: Develops and drives the implementation of a scalable, intelligent EA practice.

· Operational owner: Executes day-to-day architecture operations while continuously improving efficiency and quality.

· Data steward: Ensures architecture metadata is accurate, current, and usable across domains.

· Automation thinker: Sees manual handoffs and fragmented data as opportunities for automation and integration.

· AI enabler: Supports the use of AI agents by aligning data, tools, and workflows across architecture and delivery.

· Collaborative leader: Works across the enterprise to create shared practices that benefit the entire ecosystem.

Direct Manager/Direct Reports: Typically reports to the Software Engineer Manager or Sr. Manager, Technology Director, or Sr. Director.
