Job summary

Focused Energy seeks a Principal Software Engineer to own the Core Software architecture for the fusion power plant. You will define interfaces across software, control hardware, diagnostics, and data systems, while setting standards for reliability and security.

You will design core software components in C++ and Python, develop automated calibration workflows, and lead architectural decisions. This is a technical leadership role within the Software Department.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing and implementing control software for complex physical or industrial systems.
• Strong experience with hardware and software interfaces and system-level troubleshooting.
• Experience designing automated calibration facilities or workflows.
• Solid data handling, pipelines, metadata, and reliable storage practices.
• Experience building operator HMIs and front-end interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Define end-to-end Core Software architecture for the fusion plant, including device interfaces and data handling.
• Design and implement critical parts of the Core Software using C++ and Python.
• Define interfaces between software, hardware, diagnostics, and operator tools.
• Lead technical decisions, mentor engineers, and drive architecture reviews.
