Autodesk’s Buy Experience team is looking for a talented Principal Software Engineer to help shape the future of our Commerce platform. As part of this high-visibility initiative, you will build and deliver innovative solutions for prospects, customers, and partners. You will play a key role in driving our growth from $5B to $10B+ by improving funnel conversion, enabling hypothesis-driven experimentation, enhancing productivity and automation, and delivering insights and experiences that increase revenue.
Responsibilities
Develop high-quality, secure, and reliable code following best practices, including unit testing, coding guidelines, and security standards
Design, implement, test, debug, and document new and existing components to meet business, quality, and operational requirements
Build and optimize scalable, distributed systems, microservices to support Autodesk’s global Consumption platform
Participate in code and document reviews to ensure best practices and maintain high code quality
Follow Agile principles, participate in Scrum ceremonies, and collaborate with peer engineers to estimate, plan, and deliver sprint goals
Troubleshoot and resolve code-level issues quickly and efficiently
Lead the architecture and design of secure, scalable, and maintainable software solutions
Contribute to technical roadmap and technical debt elimination, balancing time, resource, and quality constraints to achieve business and strategic goals and requirements
Support production deployments, operations, and ongoing maintenance as part of end-to-end platform ownership
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 3+ years at a Staff/Principal (or equivalent) level owning mission-critical distributed systems
Proven track record of solving complex technical + business problems at scale (> 5K TPS, global traffic, multi-region fail-over)
Mastery of system-design fundamentals—partitioning, consistency models, caching strategies, observability, security
Ability to influence architecturally across multiple teams and time zones; excellent written & verbal communication (you turn RFCs into executive-friendly one-pagers)
Experience driving production excellence—SLIs/SLOs, chaos testing, cost governance
Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, Node.js, and Go
Strong Experience with AWS services such as Lambda, Fargate, SQS, DynamoDB, Aurora and other cloud technologies
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to learn new technologies quickly
Preferred Qualifications
Consumption-based revenue model, payments or fintech background
Open-source contributions, tech talks, or patents that showcase deep domain expertise
Experience with AI programming or Agentic programming
