Job description

Principal Software Engineer, Aurora Storage

Aurora Storage, internally known as Grover, is a highly available, self-healing, and six-way replicated storage service purpose-built for cloud databases. Unlike other relational databases, Aurora’s separation of compute and storage enables offloading critical functions such as transaction redo logging, crash recovery, and backup/restore to Grover. Grover also facilitates customer-facing features like data recovery, logical replication, and improved performance, including Aurora Global Database, Backtrack, Continuous Backups, and Fast Clones. It supports additional AWS database services, such as Amazon DocumentDB, Neptune, and Timestream, enhancing their durability, scale, and performance.

Utility Computing (UC)

AWS Utility Computing provides innovative products ranging from foundational services like S3 and EC2 to new offerings that set industry standards. As part of UC, you'll support the development and management of compute, database, storage, IoT, platform, and productivity services, including security solutions for customers.

Key job responsibilities

You will design large-scale, resilient storage systems, innovate technological architectures, and ensure high performance and scalability. You will translate customer needs into technical solutions, contribute detailed technical work and architectural designs, and collaborate with leaders across the database services organization. You will own the architecture for the Aurora storage layer, engage with AWS leadership, and mentor engineers, establishing best practices and leading by example in the software development lifecycle.
