Job summary

Astera Neuro seeks a Principal Software Engineer to lead the computational infrastructure for large-scale neuroscience research in Alameda, CA. You will span the full stack from instrument control to cloud infrastructure, translating research goals into reliable software with millisecond latency and high data throughput.

You will define the technical roadmap, mentor engineers, and collaborate with scientists and hardware teams to push the boundaries of brain-inspired technology.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) with extensive software engineering background.
• Proven production software engineering fundamentals, clean code and robust design.
• Ability to scope rough ideas into working systems with minimal specs.
• Strong understanding of latency, data bottlenecks, and performance.
• Proficiency in at least two of: Python, C++, C#, Rust.

Responsibilities

• Define the technical roadmap across research systems and platforms.
• Mentor engineers and lead cross-disciplinary technical initiatives.
• Build and maintain instrument control, data acquisition, and analysis software.
• Develop dashboards and interfaces for scientists to interact with complex data.
