Job summary

SonataSoftware is seeking a Principal Snowflake Data Platform Engineer to lead semantic modeling, BI platform development, and analytics data integration in San Antonio, TX. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable dashboards and reliable reporting architecture.

The role requires deep Snowflake expertise, data modeling, ELT/ETL tooling (dbt, Fivetran), and strong leadership to drive enterprise analytics initiatives with governance and best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related field.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, or related discipline preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or enterprise data platforms.
• 5+ years in senior/lead architect role driving platform strategy, standards, governance.
• Proven expertise designing and operating cloud-based data platforms (Snowflake or similar).
• Hands-on experience with ELT/ETL tools and metadata management (dbt, Fivetran).
• Strong background in enterprise integration and self-service BI with governed semantic layers.

Responsibilities

Aboutthe role

• Reporting & Visualization Development Design,develop, and optimize interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizationsolutions that enable reliable and scalable business insights across theorganization. Implement best practices in BI development including data modeling,visualization standards, and performance optimization to ensure highusability and responsiveness of reporting platforms. Collaborate withcross-functional teams to align reporting solutions with businessobjectives and evolving analytical needs. availability and uninterruptedservice delivery. • Semantic Modeling & BI Platform Development Develop and maintain modern semantic data models andreporting layers using BI platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or othercloud-based reporting tools. Ensure data accuracy, consistency, andgovernance through standardized metric definitions, data validation, anddocumentation practices. Contribute to BI development standards, reusabledashboards, templates, and data models to promote scalability andself-service analytics.
• BI Platform Support & Optimization Maintain and enhance existing dashboards, reports, andBI assets to ensure performance, reliability, and alignment with securityand governance policies. Evaluate and recommend new BI tools,visualization techniques, and reporting frameworks to continuously improveanalytics capabilities. Support production reporting environments,troubleshoot issues, and perform root cause analysis while drivingcontinuous improvement of BI processes.
• Data Modeling & Source Integration for Analytics Design and implement efficient analytical data models(star schemas, semantic layers, and aggregates) that support enterprisereporting and dashboarding needs. Perform detailed analysis of sourcesystems and datasets to ensure accurate integration with reportingplatforms. Apply best practices in data modeling, metadata management, andversion control to maintain consistency and transparency across BI assets.
• Business Partnership & Insights Enablement Partner with business stakeholders, analysts, and datateams to deliver trusted and actionable insights through well-designeddashboards and reports. Translate business questions and analyticalrequirements into scalable BI solutions aligned with enterprise data andanalytics strategies. Contribute to the evolution of enterprise BIplatforms by shaping reporting standards, governance frameworks, andlong-term analytics roadmaps.

Educationand Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, InformationSystems, Data Engineering, or a related field required.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, InformationManagement, or Business/Technology discipline preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in data architecture, dataengineering, or enterprise data platforms.
• 5+ years in a senior/lead architect role drivingplatform strategy, standards, and governance at enterprise scale.
• Proven expertise designing and operating cloud-baseddata platforms (Snowflake or similar), including Lakehouse/medallionarchitectures.
• Hands-on experience with ELT/ETL tools, data modeling,and metadata management (dbt, Fivetran, or comparable).
• Strong background in enterprise integration (API-led,event-driven, or batch patterns).
• Demonstrated success enabling self-service BI andanalytics platforms with governed semantic layers.
• Exposure to machine learning/AI platforms and MLOps//practices for operationalizing models.
• Track record of partnering with business leaders toalign data platforms with strategic business needs(growth, efficiency,compliance, innovation).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholdermanagement skills; experience influencing technical and executiveaudiences.
