Railroad & Transit Team

Burns is currently seeking a Principal Signal Engineering Specialist to join our Railroad & Transit team in Philadelphia, PA or Pittsburgh, PA.

Summary

Performs technical oversight of identified engineering projects within a specific specialization or market sector with high levels of complexity. Formulates and guides the attempt to solve problems consisting of a high level of difficulty and marked importance to the organization. May be responsible for development of a niche technical service. Is aware of the company's goals and uses this knowledge to identify ways to advance the company's ability to produce successful projects. Primary focus may be on high-profile clients or projects. Performs duties similar to the Senior Project Engineer but for complex or specialized projects or specific clients.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Coordinate project work with all engineering staff and consultants.
  • Troubleshoot and provide design and/or construction solutions.
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques and analyses.
  • Utilize thorough knowledge of current technology to select and apply appropriate engineering software for use on projects.
  • Perform complex engineering tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Assist in recruiting, retaining, and developing top industry talent.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with employees, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Investigate complex technical problems individually.
  • Conduct quality control through project reviews at various stages.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to clients on technical issues.
  • Represent the firm at technical conferences and client meetings.
  • Assist in performance management by providing feedback to the Project Manager.
  • Work with the Project Manager to determine technical staffing needs.
  • Ensure financial and technical project success and high client satisfaction.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Informal task supervision of CAD Operators, Designers, Junior Associates, Associates, Engineers, and Engineer IIs at the direction of the Project Manager.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's (B.S.) Engineering degree and at least 12 years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
