Northrop Grumman Defense Systems Sector has a need for a Principal Mechanical Engineer or Sr Principal Mechanical Engineer at its Subsystem and Software Sustainment (S&SS) organization in Warner Robins, GA. This engineering position is for a role on our Hardware Engineering Team. In this role you will be supporting Electronic Warfare and Radar Development programs. Our ideal candidate will possess technical expertise, a drive to lead from where you are, collaborative people skills, and the proven ability to work within a technically diverse and fast-paced team. This position requires that you work on-site daily.

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Perform detailed hardware design including part selection, developing CAD models and conducting cable/signal routing.
  2. Research, develop, plan, design, analyze and test Mechanical components, equipment and systems.
  3. Support the delivery of Mechanical Systems design Technical Data Packages, as-built TDPs, interface models, and additional design artifacts.
  4. Write and modify CNC programs using CAD/CAM software.
  5. Select appropriate tools, fixtures, and materials for each job.
  6. Resolve mechanical issues during hardware design, development, manufacture, integration and qualification.
  7. Define and apply appropriate Geometric, Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to mechanical designs.
  8. Troubleshoot issues with machines or programs as needed.
  9. Access, interpret, and recommend changes to engineering drawings.
  10. Develop Mechanical designs that meet MIL-STD and other applicable codes and regulations.

Frequent opportunities to interact with Program Management, external suppliers and/or government customers, therefore excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills are essential to succeeding in this role.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Mechanical Engineer:

  1. Must have a Bachelor of Science (B.S) degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent STEM related discipline.
  2. Minimum of 5 years of direct relevant experience with B.S degree; Minimum of 3 years of direct relevant experience with Masters degree; Minimum of 1 year of direct relevant experience with PhD.
  3. Must currently hold or be able to obtain and maintain a U.S Department of Defense (DoD) Secret level security clearance.

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer:

  1. Must have a Bachelor of Science (B.S) degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent STEM related discipline.
  2. Minimum of 9 years of direct relevant experience with B.S degree; Minimum of 7 years of direct relevant experience with Masters degree; Minimum of 5 years of direct relevant experience with PhD.
  3. Experience with CAD Modeling in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or NX.
  4. Experience with CAM software, such as Mastercam.
  5. Must currently hold or be able to obtain and maintain a U.S Department of Defense (DoD) Secret level security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Proficient performing CAD modeling with design tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Siemens NX or similar.
  2. Strong knowledge of CNC programming languages and software (e.g., G-code, Mastercam).
  3. Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and presentation skills.
  4. Ability to understand and interpret requirements.
  5. Experience reviewing and providing feedback on engineering designs based on latest industry standards.

Salary Range: $86,600 - $130,000

Salary Range 2: $107,800 - $161,800

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
