Job summary

Scorpion Therapeutics in the United States is seeking a Veterinary pathologist to lead cross‑functional toxicology efforts. The role involves evaluating safety profiles for new drugs, interpreting postmortem data, and guiding studies from discovery through late-stage development.

The candidate will develop into the Therapeutic Area Pathology Lead, communicating findings to study teams and shaping mechanistic insights that support regulatory readiness and drug discovery programs.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine required with board certification in anatomical pathology.
  • ACVP/ECVP or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • Experience in toxicology study interpretation is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Characterize safety profiles of new drugs using routine H&E and specialized methods.
  • Develop into Therapeutic Area Pathology Lead overseeing studies from discovery to late-stage development.
  • Communicate postmortem findings with study teams and explore mechanisms of toxicity.
  • Review literature to determine significance of postmortem results.
  • Provide scientific and technical guidance to staff and cross-functional teams.

Job description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Employ routine H&E evaluations and specialized techniques to characterize safety profiles of new drugs from nonclinical toxicology and investigative studies.
  • Work independently to create and interpret data; review relevant literature to determine significance of postmortem results.
  • Develop in role to serve as Therapeutic Area Pathology Lead, providing scientific input/oversight across studies from early discovery through late-stage development.
  • Communicate postmortem findings with study teams; participate in projects to elucidate mechanisms of toxicity.
  • Provide scientific and technical guidance to technical staff.
Required Experience and Skills:
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Opportunity mindset.
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM).
  • ACVP or ECVP-board certification (or equivalent) in anatomic pathology.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • Proficiency in evaluation/interpretation of toxicology studies.
  • PhD in Toxicology, Pathology, or related discipline.
  • Pathologist experience in biotech, pharma, or CRO.
  • Knowledge of drug discovery, development, and regulatory processes.
  • Demonstrated growth mindset and potential for broader scientific influence.
Required/On-site Tools (role-related):
  • Digital pathology, quantitative digital image analysis/targeted machine learning, transmission electron microscopy, special histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization; historical control slide archive/database; in vitro/in vivo assay capabilities.
